PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Akisame Koetsuji (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kato Munechika (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Munechika has chosen Requiem for a Dream as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Akisame Koetsuji!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kato Munechika!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Koetsuji dives in and scores a takedown into Munechika's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Koetsuji works over Munechika with some ground and pound from guard.
Koetsuji pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Munechika is keeping the position for now.
Koetsuji stopping the sweep attempt from Munechika.
Munechika trying to keep a closed guard but Koetsuji is proving a slippery customer.
Koetsuji trying to control the position from guard on top but Munechika is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Koetsuji tries to free his leg and advance position but Munechika is retaining full guard.
Koetsuji has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Munechika not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Munechika really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Koetsuji. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Koetsuji lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Koetsuji controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Koetsuji stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Munechika swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Munechika controls Koetsuji momentarily but Koetsuji frees himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kato Munechika.

Munechika fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Koetsuji, pushing him back against the cage.

Munechika tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Munechika tries to work over Koetsuji's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Munechika doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Munechika scores with a shot to the side of Koetsuji's head.
Koetsuji prevents a body shot from Munechika.
Munechika misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Munechika fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Munechika is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Koetsuji is defending well for now.
Munechika throws a head punch that misses.
Munechika lands a nice knee to the body.
Munechika lands a hook to the side of the head.
Munechika misses with a body punch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Munechika misses with a punch to the body.

Koetsuji jumps guard.
Koetsuji has control of Munechika's left arm, preventing Munechika from doing any damage.
Munechika trying to control but Koetsuji is working from the bottom.

Koetsuji is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Munechika's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Koetsuji has control of Munechika's left arm, preventing Munechika from doing any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Munechika wants to control from the top but Koetsuji keeps moving.

We're going to have a standup here because Akisame Koetsuji wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Koetsuji shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Koetsuji content to control rather than advance.
Munechika trying to get back to full guard but Koetsuji takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Koetsuji pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Koetsuji prevents Munechika from getting the reversal.
Koetsuji looking to control but Munechika is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Koetsuji avoids the attempt from Munechika to control.

Koetsuji looking to control and managing it successfully.
Munechika is in all sorts of trouble here.

Koetsuji is working for a guillotine from mount but Munechika frees his head quite easily.
Koetsuji with the ground and pound from mount.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Munechika tries to hold on but Koetsuji postures up.
Munechika is squirming around, avoiding Koetsuji's attempts to control the action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Munechika is working to get back to half guard.
Koetsuji lands a nice shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akisame Koetsuji dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Munechika throws the left hand but Koetsuji avoids the punch easily.
Koetsuji throws out a loose jab but Munechika uses good head movement to avoid it.
Munechika scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Kato Munechika seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Koetsuji misses with a body punch
and Munechika counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Munechika throws a lazy right hand but Koetsuji sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Koetsuji changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Munechika tries to avoid it but Koetsuji manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Munechika to the ground. Munechika escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Munechika throws a nice inside leg kick.
Munechika tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Koetsuji is able to avoid easily.

Munechika throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Koetsuji was covering up waiting for the punch and Munechika finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Koetsuji wants to sweep here but Munechika controlling him for the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Munechika looking to improve position, pressing down on Koetsuji's thigh with his hand. Koetsuji seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Munechika paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Munechika's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Koetsuji picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Akisame Koetsuji!
Akisame Koetsuji gave a mention to CEC Nutrition Q160 in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
