PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Henderson Cormier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Hart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hart has chosen DMX - Where My Dogs At as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Henderson Cormier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Shane Hart!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Colin Fotheringham and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cormier stuffs the takedown.
Cormier has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Cormier leaves Hart with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hart tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cormier misses with a takedown attempt - Hart sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Hart gets caught flat footed, as Cormier shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Cormier drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hart manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cormier has Hart in his guard.
Cormier bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hart's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cormier drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Hart dives on top into guard.
Cormier wants to stand but Hart is controlling the position.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hart working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Hart stands up and waves to Cormier to follow him.
Hart throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hart chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Cormier moves in looking to clinch but Hart pushes him off.
Hart tries to land a front kick but Cormier steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Cormier moves out of range as Hart strikes.

Cormier closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Cormier creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hart sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Hart shoots in but Cormier avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Hart uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cormier.

Cormier is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hart is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hart has escaped and now he's on top!

Hart shoots in for a double leg but Cormier sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Shane Hart has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Hart is pressing down on Cormier's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Cormier wants to control from the top but Hart keeps moving.

Cormier throws an elbow that misses. Hart uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cormier's guard. Nice move by Hart!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Shane Hart hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cormier enables Hart to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cormier manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Cormier is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cormier thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hart's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Henderson Cormier showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cormier, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
