PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brad Hogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brad Hogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eddie Jones!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hogan tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
Jones is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Jones fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hogan to the ground. Jones is now in Hogan's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Jones wants to control from the top but Hogan keeps moving.
Hogan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Jones seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hogan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hogan is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.
Hogan throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Hogan seems keen to control Jones's posture.
Jones working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Hogan controls Jones momentarily but Jones frees himself.

Jones throws a strike but Hogan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hogan stops Jones from standing up.

Hogan pushes down on Jones's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Jones pushes Hogan off looking to stand but Hogan dives back in and keeps control.
Jones landing strikes from the bottom.

Hogan perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Hogan wants to free his trapped foot but Jones is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Jones wants to get back to his feet.
Hogan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

We're going to have a standup here because Brad Hogan wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Hogan tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into Hogan's guard.
Hogan wants to sweep but no luck.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Jones distracts Hogan with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Hogan has momentary wrist control but Jones slips an elbow through the middle.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Hogan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hogan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Jones wants to control but Hogan is keeping busy.

Hogan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jones does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Hogan seems to be working for a kimura but Jones defends the submission attempt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hogan can't keep his opponent in guard - Jones advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Hogan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hogan enables Jones to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hogan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Jones connects with a couple of short punches.

Jones cracks Hogan with a solid left hand.

Jones pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hogan is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hogan throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Hogan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones lands a couple of digs.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hogan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Eddie Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Jones shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hogan's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hogan is on top in guard.
Hogan won't allow Jones to sweep him here.
Jones wants to stand up but Hogan is controlling him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jones takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Hogan stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hogan wants it to stay on the feet.

Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hogan to the mat! Hogan manages to get full guard.

Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jones passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Hogan seems a little lost for a moment, as Jones dominates the positioning.
You can see the frustration on Hogan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones cracks Hogan with an elbow. That is naaassty.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eddie Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
