Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Hartley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sonjay Malamar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sonjay Malamar!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malamar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hartley circles away quickly and effectively.

Hartley instigates a clinch.

Hartley breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sonjay Malamar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hartley gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Hartley gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Hartley makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Hartley works over Malamar with some ground and pound from guard.
Hartley has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hartley tries to pass to full mount but Malamar defends it.
Hartley has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Hartley is landing with some decent strikes but Malamar is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Hartley can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Malamar is looking to escape.

Malamar gets back to half guard.
Malamar flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hartley lands a nice short elbow.
Hartley slips a nice elbow through Malamar's hands, connecting with Malamar's forehead.
Malamar tries to roll over but Hartley keeps him under control.
Hartley lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Hartley looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Malamar is pressing down on Hartley's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hartley got a little sloppy there for a moment and Malamar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hartley has managed to get both his arms back between Malamar's legs - danger averted.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hartley's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Hartley postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Hartley wants to control from the top but Malamar keeps moving.
Hartley lands a couple of digs.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hartley makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hartley postures up and lands a big shot to Malamar's brow.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Malamar shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hartley pinned against the cage. Hartley gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Hartley shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Malamar manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Hartley drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Malamar manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hartley has Malamar in his guard.

Hartley is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Malamar is controlling him.
Hartley tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Malamar wants to stand and escape but instead Hartley has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Hartley is in close to Malamar's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Malamar escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hartley gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Malamar wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sonjay Malamar was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Malamar moves in looking to clinch but Hartley pushes him off.

and Hartley holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Malamar tries to circle away but Hartley has him pinned against the cage.
Malamar is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Hartley jumps guard.

Malamar drops back looking for a leg! Hartley is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hartley manages to kick Malamar off! Malamar jumps back into Hartley's guard.

Hartley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Malamar might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hartley haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Malamar darts in looking for a takedown but Hartley gets double underhooks and turns Malamar into the cage.
Malamar is trying to push Hartley away but Hartley has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Malamar is looking to control Hartley's arms but Hartley gets an underhook and turns him. Now Malamar has his back to the cage.

Hartley is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Malamar can do to turn this around?
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hartley cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Malamar is desperately trying to improve his position but Hartley has a good base and remains in mount.

Well Hartley has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
