PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Cordoba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caiaphas Caine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cordoba comes to the cage accompanied by English Fire by CoF. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Alex Cordoba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Caiaphas Caine!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cordoba moves to clinch but Caine breaks away

and Caine counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Cordoba can't keep his opponent in guard - Caine advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Caine is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cordoba doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Caine.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Caine missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Cordoba might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Cordoba is trying to maintain the position but Caine is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cordoba wants to get back to full guard.

Caine wants to work for an arm triangle but Cordoba is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Caine seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cordoba does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cordoba is looking to control Caine's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cordoba avoid being mounted?

Caine is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Cordoba still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Cordoba has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Caine has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cordoba can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Cordoba wants to pass the guard but Caine is keeping the position.

Caine is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cordoba defends well.

Caine looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Caine is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Cordoba wants to control from the top but Caine keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Cordoba moves out of range as Caine strikes.
Caine throws a sloppy head kick and Cordoba moves out of range easily.

Caine blocks a leg kick.
Cordoba misses with a straight left.
Cordoba thows a body shot but no joy.
No joy there for Cordoba, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A telegraphed right hand from Cordoba misses the target.
A swing and a miss from Cordoba.
Caine moves out of range of the body kick from Cordoba.
Caine fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Cordoba on the side of the head.
Caiaphas Caine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cordoba stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cordoba wants it to stay on the feet.
Cordoba throws a body kick that misses.
Caine takes a swing at Cordoba's ribcage but misses.
Caine moves out of range of the strikes.
Caine tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Caine blocks a head kick by Cordoba.
Caine misses with a wild body shot.
Caine lands with a nice body punch.

Caine bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

You can see the frustration on Cordoba's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Caine thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Caine goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cordoba rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Caine's guard! Nice work there by Cordoba!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Caiaphas Caine showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Caine scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Caine throws a leg kick but Cordoba checks it.
Good leg kick by Cordoba there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Cordoba swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Caine.
Cordoba misses with a wild body shot.
Caine moves away from the strike by Cordoba.
Caine throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cordoba thumps Caine with a low kick.
Caine tries for a takedown but Cordoba sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Caine blocks a head kick by Cordoba.

Cordoba chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Cordoba tries to close the distance and clinch but Caine swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Caine jabs at Cordoba's body.
Cordoba scores with a leg kick.
Cordoba is looking to land body kicks.
Cordoba wants to land a leg kick but Caine is out of range.
A combination from Cordoba does no damage.
Cordoba misses with a body kick.
Caine takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Alex Cordoba is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cordoba connects with a leg kick. Caine looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Cordoba misses with a low kick.
Alex Cordoba has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Caine changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cordoba tries to avoid it but Caine manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cordoba to the ground. Cordoba escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Caine tries to keep at a distance but Cordoba has taken the fight into the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Caine tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cordoba smiles and moves away.
Alex Cordoba has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Caiaphas Caine.
Caine throws a low kick but it's checked well by Cordoba.
Cordoba is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.


It looks like Caiaphas Caine has been cut.
Caine throws a lazy right hand but Cordoba sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Caine will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cordoba fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Caine throws a leg kick but Cordoba sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Caine shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cordoba manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Caine takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cordoba is pulling down on Caine's head. It's preventing any offense from Caine, at least for the moment.

Caine drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cordoba looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cordoba looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cordoba!
Caine can't do much from the bottom here.
Caine is not content to let Cordoba control the position.
Caine is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Cordoba is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Caiaphas Caine has got the better of the ground game so far.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cordoba takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
