PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Lakanik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Unkind Artist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Artist has chosen Dropkick Murphys - Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Lakanik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 13 - 1, fighting out of New York, Unkind Artist!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, David Schapiro and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Artist jabs at Lakanik's body.
Lakanik misses with a head kick.
Artist throws the left hand but Lakanik avoids the punch easily.
Lakanik needs to keep his hands up - Artist had a free shot at his head there.
A solid leg kick lands there for Artist.
Artist is looking to slow Lakanik down with leg kicks.
Some bone on bone action there as Artist checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Lakanik keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Artist.
Lakanik slaps away a takedown attempt from Artist, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Artist lands a jab to the head.
Artist blocks the body kick.
Artist lands with a kick to the temple. Lakanik shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


It looks like John Lakanik has been cut.
A low kick from Artist is predictable there

and Lakanik counters with a head kick that drops Artist to the mat! Artist scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!


Artist is rocked!

Artist moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Artist is still on wobbly legs! Can Lakanik finish him?
Artist avoids the head kick by Lakanik.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Artist.
Artist seems to have recovered his senses.
Lakanik looks to score with a jab to the body but Artist is just out of range.
Lakanik on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Artist connects with a nice looking jab.
Lakanik moves away from the strike by Artist.

Artist is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Lakanik is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Artist's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Artist's back!
Artist has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Lakanik controlling well, preventing Artist from escaping the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Artist breaks Lakanik's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Artist wants to control from the top but Lakanik keeps moving.
Lakanik is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Abobomination Training $700 13 LEGIT elite coaches that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Lakanik knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Artist on the ground.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Lakanik is adopting a defensive guard.
Artist is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Unkind Artist hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Artist ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Artist changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lakanik tries to avoid it but Artist manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lakanik to the ground. Lakanik escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fighters circle momentarily. Artist darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Artist swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Artist shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lakanik as he avoids it easily.
John Lakanik has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Unkind Artist.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Artist throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Artist, right into the meat.

Artist tries to land knees in the clinch but Lakanik avoids the damage to the body.
Lakanik tries to break the clinch but Artist is controlling the position.

Artist dives in and grabs Lakanik's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lakanik pushes down on Artist's head and hops out.

Artist darts in looking for a takedown but Lakanik gets double underhooks and turns Artist into the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lakanik has Artist pressed against the cage, preventing Artist from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Knees in the clinch landing for Artist.
Artist goes for a takedown attempt but Lakanik pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Lakanik throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Lakanik takes a swing at Artist's ribcage but misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Artist fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A slapping body kick lands there for Artist.
Artist throws a shot from downtown. Lakanik moves away and avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Unkind Artist showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Artist.

Artist shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lakanik but Lakanik pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Lakanik gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Artist decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Lakanik throws a sloppy head kick and Artist moves out of range easily.
Unkind Artist seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A clash of legs there as Artist blocks the low kick.

Artist scores with a nice head shot.
Artist shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Artist lands the left hand.
John Lakanik has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Artist lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
No luck for Artist with that takedown attempt.
Artist misses with a hook. Lakanik ducked under it nicely.
Lakanik takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
A looping hook to the body misses from Artist. Lakanik does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lakanik gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Artist.
Artist pivots, looking for a leg kick but Lakanik is out of range and Artist settles back down.

Artist motions for Lakanik to come forward. Artist throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Lakanik pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Artist throws an off balance right hand
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Lakanik thuds a left hand into Artist's body.
An inside leg kick from Lakanik misses.
Artist tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lakanik defends well and Artist ends up having to push Lakanik into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Lakanik wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Lakanik's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Lakanik has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Artist avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Artist breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Artist throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Lakanik slips a straight right by Artist.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lakanik takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Artist is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Lakanik's half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Artist thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lakanik's head.
Artist trying to advance position but Lakanik counters by regaining guard.
Unkind Artist is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Unkind Artist comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Artist has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
