PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kato Munechika (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Munechika has chosen Requiem for a Dream as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyson Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kato Munechika!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, George Francis and Chris Downing.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Munechika tries to avoid it but Shields manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Munechika to the ground. Munechika escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Shields takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Munechika lunges at Shields with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Shields's hand.

Munechika decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Shields wants to control but Munechika is keeping busy.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Munechika connects with a nice short shot to Shields's temple.

Munechika is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shields tries to get to full guard but Munechika has control of the leg.

Munechika wants to work for an arm triangle but Shields is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Shields is trying to stand back up but Munechika is controlling him
Munechika content to control rather than advance.
Munechika looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Shields with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Munechika winds up and cracks Shields with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Shields takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Munechika's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
