PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luboslav Petrov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross comes to the cage accompanied by Swedish House Mafia-One. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Ross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luboslav Petrov!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Petrov gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Ross tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Petrov pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Petrov lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Ross backwards.
We've been hearing reports that Ross has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Ross prevents a takedown attempt there.

Petrov turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Petrov manages to end up in side control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Ross pushes Petrov away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Petrov gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Ross is fighting to break Petrov's control of his arms but Petrov is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ross stands up over Petrov, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Petrov fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ross, pushing him back against the cage.
Petrov blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Petrov is pressed up against the cage. Ross has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Petrov down to the mat. Petrov avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
James Ross is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Petrov moves in looking to clinch but Ross pushes him off.
We've been informed that Petrov has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Ross wants to stand and escape but Petrov is having none of it.

Ross has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Petrov off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Petrov decides to pull guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Petrov holds on and takes a little breather.
Ross wants to control from the top but Petrov keeps moving.

Petrov pushes Ross off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Petrov gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Petrov has hold of one of Ross's legs. Ross is fighting the takedown attempt but Petrov gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Petrov drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ross dives on top into guard.

Ross tries to keep at a distance but Petrov has taken the fight into the clinch.

Petrov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Luboslav Petrov was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Ross moves into range and clinches up with Petrov.
Ross on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Petrov is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Petrov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Petrov tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ross paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Petrov drives through with a takedown into Ross's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Petrov looks up at the clock and then as Ross takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Petrov smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Petrov goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ross has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Petrov but great work by Ross.

Ross wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Petrov, who protects the arm well.
Luboslav Petrov is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Petrov can't do much from the bottom here.

Luboslav Petrov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Petrov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
