PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jukka Vaakku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rogers comes into the arena with I Am A Real American blaring out of the sound system. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice inside leg kick there by Vaakku. That's going to slow Rogers down.
Rogers throws a head kick but Vaakku moves out of range.
Rogers is looking to clinch but Vaakku is avoiding it.
Vaakku throws a looping overhand right but Rogers ducks down to avoid it.
Vaakku avoids the head kick by Rogers.
Vaakku wants to clinch.
Vaakku looks to land a combination but Rogers avoids it well.
Rogers shoots in looking for a takedown. Vaakku tries to sprawl out of it but Rogers keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Vaakku manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The fighters circling - Vaakku throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Rogers throws a head kick that misses.
Rogers slips a jab from Vaakku.
Vaakku throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Rogers stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Rogers closes this distance looking for a takedown but Vaakku circles away.
Rogers moves in looking to clinch but Vaakku pushes him off.

Rogers shoots for a takedown but Vaakku saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Rogers. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vaakku throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Vaakku lands with a slapping head kick.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A telegraphed right hand from Vaakku misses the target.

Vaakku throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rogers avoids the body shot from Vaakku.
Vaakku misses with a hook.
Rogers shoots in for a takedown but Vaakku shows good takedown defense.
Rogers moves in looking to clinch but Vaakku pushes him off.
Rogers lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Rogers.

Vaakku decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Vaakku wants to free his trapped foot but Rogers is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Vaakku wants to take a breather but Rogers is having none of it.
Vaakku wants to stand up but Rogers has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Vaakku is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rogers defends it well.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Vaakku works his way into full mount!
Vaakku misses with a head shot.
Vaakku thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Vaakku throwing strikes here but Rogers is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Vaakku trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Vaakku sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Vaakku throws some wild stikes that Rogers manages to avoid easily.

Rogers somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Vaakku clobbers Rogers with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Rogers pushes Vaakku up against the cage in a clinch.
Vaakku misses with a punch to the body.
Rogers tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Rogers blocks a body shot from Vaakku.
Rogers working some nice short punches in the clinch.

Vaakku has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rogers is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Rogers throws a head punch that misses.
Vaakku blocks a punch to the side of the head.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Vaakku swings wildly with an uppercut but Rogers uses good head movement to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Vaakku fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Rogers on the side of the head.

Rogers ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Vaakku pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Vaakku is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rogers's half guard.

Vaakku is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vaakku is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Vaakku trying to control the action but Rogers is working from the bottom.
Rogers tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Vaakku manages to move to mount!

Vaakku goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Rogers is on top in guard.

Vaakku pushes a forearm under Rogers's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Rogers is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
