Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcelo Ribeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamar Lawal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ribeiro comes to the cage accompanied by Flux Pavilion – I Can't Stop . Lawal has chosen E.S. Posthumus Unstoppable as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marcelo Ribeiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jamar Lawal!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ribeiro misses with a takedown
letting Lawal counter with a right hand.
Lawal shoots in for a double leg but Ribeiro sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ribeiro fails to land with a series of punches.
Marcelo Ribeiro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ribeiro throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ribeiro misses with a double jab
and Lawal counters with a slapping leg kick.
Ribeiro lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lawal circles away quickly and effectively.
We've been told by Ribeiro's head coaches at MMA Gods - 16 Elites! + Roger Gracie that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Ribeiro shoots in looking for a takedown. Lawal tries to sprawl out of it but Ribeiro keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lawal manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Lawal looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Lawal closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Lawal seems to be looking for submissions.
Lawal is taking a breather. Ribeiro says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ribeiro is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Lawal pulls his head out easily.

Lawal is trying to control the action in half guard but Ribeiro is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Lawal is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Lawal is trying for a kimura here. Ribeiro looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Lawal wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jamar Lawal!
In his post fight interview, Jamar Lawal started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
