These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carvalho moves in looking to clinch but Pontes pushes him off.
We've been hearing reports that Pontes has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Pontes looks to score with a jab to the body but Carvalho is just out of range.

Pontes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pontes showed some decent athleticism there.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Carvalho is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Pontes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pontes misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
