Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hunter Helms (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gomin Rinpoche (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Helms comes to the cage accompanied by we aint gonna take it by twisted sister. Hunter Helms has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gomin Rinpoche!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Columbo Gatti and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rinpoche wants to clinch but Helms slips to the side
enabling Helms to counter with a crisp jab.
Helms stuffs the takedown.
Rinpoche doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Helms counters with a left and a right that stings Rinpoche.
Helms throws a shot to the body.
Helms throws a nice looking combination but Rinpoche bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Rinpoche shoots and misses
and Helms counters with a left and a right that stings Rinpoche.
Hunter Helms has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gomin Rinpoche.
Helms throws the left hand but Rinpoche avoids the punch easily.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Rinpoche.
Rinpoche takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Helms closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Rinpoche dives in for a single leg takedown but Helms sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Rinpoche is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Helms chips away with some ground and pound.
Helms makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Rinpoche has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Helms has passed into side control.
Helms scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Rinpoche to see if he's OK.

Helms has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Helms lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Helms cracks Rinpoche with a big right hand but Rinpoche just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Rinpoche manages to work his way to half guard, despite Helms's best efforts.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Helms working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Rinpoche tries to roll over but Helms keeps him under control.

Helms is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Helms seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Rinpoche has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Helms escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Helms!
Rinpoche takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Helms decides to stand back up. Helms steps back and let's Rinpoche get back to his feet.
Helms ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Hunter Helms seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Helms takes a swing at Rinpoche's ribcage but misses.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Helms ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rinpoche moves away.
Rinpoche tries a head kick but it misses.
Helms throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Helms counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Helms lunges at Rinpoche with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Rinpoche's hand.
Helms lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Helms lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Helms misses the jab.
Helms scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Helms feints a jab promting Rinpoche to slip. Helms then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Rinpoche slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Rinpoche bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Rinpoche walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hunter Helms dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A looping hook to the body misses from Helms. Rinpoche does a little dance to reset his feet.
Rinpoche misses with a head kick.
Rinpoche lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Helms at a distance.
Hunter Helms is winning the standup battle so far.
Helms lands with an uppercut that bounces Rinpoche off the cage and back into range.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Helms connects with a nice short shot to Rinpoche's temple.

Helms looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rinpoche with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Helms is nestled in close to Rinpoche, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Hunter Helms dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Rinpoche shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Helms lands a jab to the nose.
Helms misses with a double jab.

Helms drops Rinpoche with a right and a left! Helms comes rushing in but Rinpoche regains his composure and manages to keep Helms in guard.


Rinpoche is rocked!
Hunter Helms overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Helms lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Rinpoche is still in real trouble! Can Helms finish him?
Helms stands up over Rinpoche, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Rinpoche not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Helms is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rinpoche can do to turn this around?

OH! Rinpoche has been rocked by a huge right hand and is in deep trouble! Helms smells blood and charges in for the finish! Helms unloads a vicious overhand right and connects to the jaw of Rinpoche sending him face first to the canvas! Unbelievable!
