The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab lands there for Lightning.
Emelianenko shoots in looking for a takedown but Lightning manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Emelianenko's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Lightning stuffs the takedown attempt from Emelianenko. Emelianenko gets slowly back to his feet.
Emelianenko takes one to the chin there.
Emelianenko tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lightning sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Emelianenko somewhat.
Fists Lightning has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fedor Emelianenko.

Emelianenko closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Lightning did well to prevent Emelianenko getting side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Emelianenko is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lightning scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Emelianenko manages to mount him!

Emelianenko looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Emelianenko sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lightning is squirming around, avoiding Emelianenko's attempts to control the action.

Emelianenko jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Lightning manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Emelianenko is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lightning is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Emelianenko is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Lightning is trying to escape and Emelianenko transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Lightning is forced to tap! Nice work there by Emelianenko! Very nice indeed!
