The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Sloan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mandzukic is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sloan is controlling him.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mandzukic can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mandzukic wants to stand and escape but Sloan is having none of it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mandzukic's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Sloan is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Mandzukic can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Mandzukic really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sloan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

This has been an exciting period of action!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sloan lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Sloan lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Mandzukic is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Mandzukic is staying active underneath Sloan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sloan lands a big elbow - Mandzukic is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Sloan!
