PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Burke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kisuke Urahara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kisuke Urahara was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, James Burke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 2, fighting out of Tokyo, Kisuke Urahara!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Urahara swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Urahara looks to land a right hand but Burke moved out of range.
Urahara lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Urahara buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Burke swings for the body but Urahara moves out of range.
Urahara cracks Burke with an open hand slap.
Urahara walks into a straight right hand from Burke.
Urahara takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Urahara swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Burke counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Burke throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Burke throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Burke not doing much here.
Burke wants to pass the guard but Urahara is defending well.

Urahara gets full guard.

Urahara looking for a guillotine here but Burke defends easily.
Burke in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Burke wants to pass the guard but Urahara is keeping the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Burke has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Burke wants to pass the guard but Urahara is keeping the position.
Burke is working hard here to advance position.
Urahara not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Urahara is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Burke is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Urahara looks to score with a jab to the body but Burke is just out of range.
Burke takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Burke throws a body punch but Urahara moves out of range.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Burke tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Urahara stuffs the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that James Burke will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Urahara throws a leg kick but Burke moved away.
Burke finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Burke takes a swing at Urahara's ribcage but misses.
Urahara lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Urahara chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Burke can pounce on him.
Burke misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Burke tries to work over Urahara's front leg with a kick but Urahara checks it.
Burke throws a nice inside leg kick.
Burke misses with a wild body shot.
Burke drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Urahara ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Burke clobbers Urahara with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Urahara misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Burke.
Burke moves out of range of the strikes.
Burke fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Urahara manages to avoid it.
Urahara throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Burke swinging wildly here.
Burke throws a leg kick that is checked
and Urahara cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like James Burke has been cut.
Burke throws a shot from downtown. Urahara moves away and avoids it.
Burke stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Kisuke Urahara seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A jab from Burke misses.
Burke walks into a left hand.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A nice leg kick lands there from Burke.

Urahara misses with a leg kick.
Urahara uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Burke.

Burke throws a right hand that misses
and Urahara counters with a right hand to the body.
Urahara uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Burke.
Urahara throws a leg kick which misses Burke's front leg but catches the back leg as Burke tries to avoid it.
Burke ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Urahara moves away.
A big right from Burke misses.
Urahara wants to clinch.

Urahara moves out of range as Burke strikes.

Burke shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Urahara manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Burke postures up.
Burke is looking to pass into half guard but Urahara pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Urahara is in guard.

Burke isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Urahara stacks Burke on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Urahara!

Urahara tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Burke manages to work his way to half guard, despite Urahara's best efforts.
Burke is looking for a sweep. Urahara is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Burke is staying active underneath Urahara, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Burke is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Kisuke Urahara will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on James Burke's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Burke scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Urahara throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Burke blocks a jab.
Burke swings for the body but Urahara moves out of range.
Burke lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

and Urahara counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Burke on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Urahara. Urahara obviously looking to wear him down.
Urahara on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Burke wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Burke misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Urahara.
Urahara looks to land a right hand but Burke moved out of range.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Burke.
Burke swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Urahara tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Burke counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Urahara escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Burke gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Urahara is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Urahara is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Burke thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Burke in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Burke throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Urahara works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Burke stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Urahara swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Urahara might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Burke haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Urahara is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Kisuke Urahara wasn't active enough on the ground.
Burke avoids the body shot from Urahara.
Burke finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Urahara. Those never looked like landing.

A looping hook to the body misses from Burke. Urahara does a little dance to reset his feet.

Urahara moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Burke lands with an uppercut that bounces Urahara off the cage and back into range.
Urahara misses with an attempted mid kick.
Burke circles away from the clinch attempt.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Burke turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Burke shoots in for a double leg but Urahara sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Burke showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Burke has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
