PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Theoran Fleury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Musashimaru Koyo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fleury comes to the cage accompanied by Oh Canada!. Koyo has chosen "Tengoku Kara Kaminari" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Theoran Fleury has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Theoran Fleury seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Theoran Fleury!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 14 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Musashimaru Koyo!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Fleury.
Fleury tries to work over Koyo's front leg with a kick but Koyo checks it.
Koyo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Fleury manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Nice body kick there by Koyo.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Koyo has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Koyo pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Koyo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Fleury manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Fleury connects with a body shot that sends Koyo's belly button to the back.
Fleury swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Koyo will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Fleury cracks Koyo with a good jab.
Fleury throws a sloppy head kick and Koyo moves out of range easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Koyo looks to land a right hand but Fleury moved out of range.
Koyo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Koyo explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Koyo misses with a kick to the body.

Fleury lands a lovely overhand right.
Fleury keeps the fight on the outside.
Koyo lands a nice shot to the body.

Fleury tries to keep at a distance but Koyo has taken the fight into the clinch.
Koyo has Fleury pressed against the cage, preventing Fleury from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Koyo breaks from the clinch.
Koyo shoots for a double leg takedown but Fleury sprawls well. He's pushed Koyo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Fleury blocks a head kick by Koyo.
An inside leg kick lands from Koyo.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Fleury misses with a body shot.
Fleury is looking to land body kicks.
Koyo comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Fleury dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Koyo. That did some damage!
Koyo just misses with a punch to the body.

Koyo with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Fleury to score with a decent uppercut.

and Fleury finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Koyo tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Fleury lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Fleury connects with a crisp jab.
Koyo throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Fleury connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Fleury connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Koyo's hands.
Theoran Fleury seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Koyo takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Fleury lands a big head kick that sends Koyo tumbling to the mat! Fleury takes a step backwards and waves Koyo back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Musashimaru Koyo has been cut.
Fleury misses with a wild combination.
Koyo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fleury's waist but Fleury gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Koyo off to one side.
Theoran Fleury has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Musashimaru Koyo.

Fleury throws a leg kick which misses Koyo's front leg but catches the back leg as Koyo tries to avoid it.
Fleury drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Theoran Fleury is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Koyo with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Fleury moves out of range of the body kick from Koyo.
Koyo thumps Fleury with a low kick.
Koyo is trying desperately to land a takedown but Fleury is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Koyo.

Fleury gets caught napping as Koyo dives in and scores a takedown. Fleury manages to retain guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Koyo trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fleury has Koyo pulled in close to control his posture.
Koyo throws an elbow that misses. Fleury uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Koyo's guard. Nice move by Fleury!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fleury throwing strikes from guard but Koyo blocks nicely.
Fleury works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That's time! Fleury's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Koyo takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Fleury throws a sloppy head kick and Koyo moves out of range easily.
Fleury jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A solid leg kick lands there for Koyo.
Koyo stuns Fleury with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Koyo wants to clinch up but Fleury keeps it at a distance.

Koyo shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Fleury wants to improve his position but Koyo is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fleury is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Koyo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Koyo's back!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Musashimaru Koyo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Koyo takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Fleury pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Koyo gets cracked there but stands up to it.
A telegraphed right hand from Fleury misses the target.
Koyo takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Fleury throws a head kick that misses.

Koyo drives through and clinches with Fleury against the cage.
Koyo doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Fleury lands a hook that snaps the head of Koyo backwards.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Koyo has Fleury pressed against the cage, preventing Fleury from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Fleury is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Koyo is defending well.

Koyo has clasped his hands together around Fleury's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Koyo throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Fleury wants to control but Koyo is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Fleury is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Koyo scores with a couple of nice shots.
Fleury tries to roll over but Koyo keeps him under control.
Fleury is staying active underneath Koyo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Fleury tries to get to full guard but Koyo has control of the leg.
Koyo throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Koyo perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Koyo slips a nice elbow through Fleury's hands, connecting with Fleury's forehead.
Koyo is thwarting Fleury's attempts to control the position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Fleury takes a shot right to the bread basket.

And that's the end of the fight!
Musashimaru Koyo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Koyo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
