Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Burt Guth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vo Nguyen Giap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guth comes into the arena with Xasthur - Beauty Is Only Razor Deep blaring out of the sound system. Giap is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Beach Party Vietnam. Burt Guth is staring across the ring at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guth throws a head kick that misses.
Giap tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Guth counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Guth throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Giap's waist but Giap gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Guth off to one side.
Giap tries to clinch up.
Vo Nguyen Giap seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Guth circles away from the clinch attempt.

Guth closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Guth lands in his opponent's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Guth accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Guth throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Giap works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Guth looking to sit in guard and control but Giap gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Giap is looking to clinch but Guth is avoiding it.

Guth drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Giap can't find room to land a body shot as Guth controls the action.
Giap lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Guth as Giap tries to tie him up.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

I was talking to Guth's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Giap's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Giap fails with an attempt to clinch.
Giap punishes Guth's body with a nice straight punch.
Giap closes the distance but Guth moves to the side
and Guth counters with a head kick.
A telegraphed right hand from Giap misses the target.

Giap forces Guth back against the ropes and clinches.
Giap with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Guth.
Guth is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Giap is defending well for now.
Guth blocks the elbow strike.
Guth fails to pull guard.

A body shot lands from Giap.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Giap will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Guth up against the ropes.
Guth is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Giap unloads a knee to the mid-section. Guth lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Giap lands a damaging elbow.
Guth has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Giap is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Giap throws an elbow but it misses.
Giap throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Guth blocks it with crossed arms.
Giap throws a punch but it's blocked by Guth.
A nice right hand lands inside from Giap.
Guth is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Giap is defending well.

Guth blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Guth has Giap pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Guth pulls back from the ropes and twists to the side, sending Giap tumbling to the mat - Guth dives into Giap's guard.

Guth drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Giap dives on top into guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Giap wants to stand but Guth is controlling his posture from full guard.
Guth wants to sweep here but Giap controlling him for the moment.

Guth working for submissions but it's allowed Giap to get to half guard.
Giap wants to stand up but Guth has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Giap postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Guth to stand up.
Guth throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Guth pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Giap wants to clinch.
Guth throws a sloppy head kick and Giap moves out of range easily.

and Guth counters with a thumping low kick.
Giap darts in trying to clinch
and Guth finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Giap is looking to clinch but Guth is avoiding it.
Giap darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Giap throws a shot from downtown. Guth moves away and avoids it.
Giap is looking to clinch but Guth is avoiding it.

Giap clinches.

Giap breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Giap swings for the body but Guth moves out of range.
Giap darts in trying to clinch
and Guth counters with a big head kick but Giap shrugs it off.
Guth circles away from the clinch attempt
and Guth counters with a nice body kick.
Giap tries to clinch but Guth moves away
and Guth counters with a good low kick that Giap was not able to check.
Nice straight punches there by Giap. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Giap.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Giap tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Guth manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
