Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fredick Koch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fredick Koch!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Eddie Farnsworth and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Danga de danga de dang - Koch scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Jim Mendez has been cut.
Koch tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mendez was well out of range. Poor timing from Koch.
Koch throws a series of punches but Mendez moves out of range.

Mendez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Koch's waist but Koch gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mendez off to one side.

Mendez darts in looking for a takedown but Koch gets double underhooks and turns Mendez into the cage.

Mendez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Koch is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Koch has escaped and now he's on top!

Mendez can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Koch is looking to escape.

Koch is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Mendez goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Koch turns into him and now he's in Mendez's guard.
Koch wants to get up but he can't break Mendez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mendez pulls Koch in to control the position.
Mendez wants to sweep but no luck.

Koch stands up and waves to Mendez to follow him.
Koch rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mendez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Mendez moves away from the strike by Koch.
Koch throws a series of punches but Mendez moves out of range.

Koch closes the distance and clinches.

Mendez has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Koch regains guard immediately.
Mendez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Koch enables Mendez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Koch manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Mendez wants to control from the top but Koch keeps moving.

Mendez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Koch looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Koch looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Koch!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Koch tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Koch is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mendez wants to take the fight to the mat but Koch manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Mendez swings around for an armbar but Koch sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mendez's guard.

Koch must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mendez controls Koch momentarily but Koch frees himself.
Koch wants to stand but Mendez has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mendez has control of Koch's left arm, preventing Koch from doing any damage.

Fredick Koch comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Koch winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
