Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jetrone Lagoc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Layne Staley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lagoc comes to the cage accompanied by Before I Forget. Staley is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Rooster. Layne Staley will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jetrone Lagoc!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Layne Staley!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lagoc throws a right and a left that Staley avoids nicely.
Sloppy strikes from Lagoc. Those never looked like landing.
Staley tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Lagoc feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Staleys jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Lagoc throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Staley stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Staley gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Lagoc lands a nice looking body shot.

Staley shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lagoc napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This has been an exciting period of action!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Staley is trying to get an arm triangle but Lagoc is defending well.
Staley looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Lagoc might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Staley wants to control but Lagoc is keeping him busy.
Lagoc is trying to control Staley's posture but Staley avoids it.

Lagoc is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Lagoc manages to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Staley content to control rather than advance.
Staley trying to mount his opponent but Lagoc defends it.

Staley postures up and lands a big shot to Lagoc's brow.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lagoc is on top in guard.
Lagoc wants to control from the top but Staley keeps moving.
Staley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Lagoc wanted to stand there but Staley had control of the position.
Lagoc is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Staley controls Lagoc momentarily but Lagoc frees himself.

Lagoc stands up and waves to Staley to follow him.
Lagoc just misses with a punch to the body.
A punch combination from Lagoc misses.
Staley fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Lagoc rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Staley moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Lagoc throws a right and a left that Staley avoids nicely.
Lagoc throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Staley.

Jetrone Lagoc seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lagoc tries to bum rush Staley with a series of wild strikes but Staley uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Staley moves in looking to clinch but Lagoc pushes him off.
Lagoc throws a series of punches but Staley moves out of range.
Lagoc just misses with a punch to the body.
Lagoc stuffs the takedown attempt from Staley. Staley gets slowly back to his feet.
We've been told by Lagoc's head coaches at TAP ROOT -/- 10 Coaches / Great Sparring / Value that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Jetrone Lagoc has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Layne Staley.
Lagoc throws a body punch but Staley moves out of range.
Staley tries to clinch but Lagoc moves out of range.
Lagoc sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Staley shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lagoc as he avoids it easily.
Staley takes a jab right on the kisser.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lagoc looks to land a combination but Staley avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Staley moves in looking to clinch but Lagoc pushes him off.
Lagoc rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Staley moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Staley closes the distance but Lagoc moves to the side
and Lagoc counters with a straight right hand.
Lagoc throws a nice looking combination but Staley bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Staley throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lagoc.
Lagoc connects with a body shot.
Jetrone Lagoc is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lagoc misses with a wild body shot.
Lagoc dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Staley walks into a straight right hand from Lagoc.
Lagoc circles away from the clinch attempt.
Staley takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Lagoc throws a right and a left that Staley avoids nicely.
Staley is still on wobbly legs! Can Lagoc finish him?
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lagoc fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Lagoc lands with a right and another and another! Staley is in big trouble! Lagoc lands again and this time it's lights out for Staley! A quality knockout there for Lagoc.

During a confident post fight interview, Jetrone Lagoc thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
