PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jamie Vincent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Boyce Luke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boyce Luke struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 136.7lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jamie Vincent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Boyce Luke!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vincent tries to sprawl but Luke drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Vincent wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Luke trying to control the action but Vincent is working from the bottom.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Luke working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Vincent has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Luke is working away from the top position though.
Vincent holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Luke doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Vincent connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Luke's hands.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Luke tries to keep at a distance but Vincent has taken the fight into the clinch.
Vincent digs a right hand underneath Luke's ribcage. Luke let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Vincent definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Vincent lands an uppercut.
Vincent pushes Luke back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Luke looks winded!
Luke is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Vincent lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Luke backwards.
Vincent lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Still in the clinch, Vincent scores with a nice short uppercut.


Luke is rocked!
Luke is trying to maintain a safe position but Vincent gets an underhook and turns Luke into the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Vincent breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Luke wants to clinch but Vincent slips to the side

and Vincent counters with a single leg into guard. Luke didn't expect that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Luke can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Vincent controls the pace.
Vincent's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Vincent advances to half guard.
Vincent wants to free his trapped foot but Luke is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Vincent is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Luke is looking to get back to full guard here but Vincent has managed to pass to side control instead.
You can see the frustration on Luke's face as Vincent controls the position.
Luke gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Vincent looking to control and managing it successfully.
Vincent wants to control the pace but Luke is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vincent controlling the position easily from mount.
Vincent working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Luke taking shots to the head.
Vincent looking to finish Luke with some ground and pound. This is bad for Luke!
Vincent looking to control and managing it successfully.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee warns Luke that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jamie Vincent dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Luke shoots in and bounces Vincent off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Luke is fighting to break Vincent's control of his arms but Vincent is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Vincent has an active guard here but Luke has managed to pass into half guard.
Luke stalling away here and it's allowed Vincent to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Luke throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Vincent works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Luke is breathing heavily.
Vincent controls Luke momentarily but Luke frees himself.
Luke looking to sit in guard and control but Vincent gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Vincent lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Vincent working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Vincent drops back looking for a leg! Luke is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Luke manages to kick Vincent off! Vincent jumps back into Luke's guard.
Vincent wants to control from the top but Luke keeps moving.
Vincent has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Vincent passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Vincent wants to lay and pray for a moment but Luke keeps working.
Luke avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Vincent.

Vincent is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Luke's shoulder. That is not cool.
Vincent prevents Luke from escaping the position.
Vincent lands an elbow.
Luke being controlled for a moment.

Vincent looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Vincent is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Luke's shoulder. That is not cool.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vincent grinds an elbow into Luke's temple.

Vincent tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Vincent tries to advance to mount but Luke denies him.

Vincent has an Americana. Luke didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Vincent is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Vincent hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Jamie Vincent!
During a confident post fight interview, Jamie Vincent thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
