Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Helix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Mirko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Mirko throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Mirko scores with a nice strike.
Mirko wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

and Helix counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Helix loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mirko wants to stand but Helix is controlling the position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Helix slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Helix has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Helix seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Mirko is trying to stand.
Helix is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Mirko tries to kick Helix off but Helix keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Helix works his foot free and advances to mount.
Helix takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Mirko is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Mirko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Helix. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mirko can do anything to dispel that myth.

Helix postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mirko looks a forlorn figure.

Mirko is rocked!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Helix really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Mirko.
Helix is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Helix gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Helix gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Helix apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Nice uppercut lands for Mirko. That snapped Helix's head back.
Mirko connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Mirko lands with a nice body punch.
Mirko lands a lovely overhand right.
Good exchange - Mirko coming out on top.
Helix shoots for a double leg takedown but Mirko sprawls well. He's pushed Helix's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mirko jabs Helix right on the nose. Helix blinks but takes it well.
Helix fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Frank Mirko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mirko misses with a series of wild punches.
Helix checks a leg kick nicely.
Helix blocks a low kick nicely.
Mirko tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mirko paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Mirko darts in and clinches Helix up against the cage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mirko avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Helix looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Mirko has picked Helix up and slammed him! Helix can't keep hold of the triangle and Mirko manages to pass to side control!
Mirko wants to stand but Helix is controlling his arm.
The ground and pound from Mirko seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Helix gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Helix gets back to full guard.
Mirko is fighting to break Helix's control of his arms but Helix is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Helix has his foot on Mirko's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mirko works his way back into a safe position though.

Mirko is posturing up here but Helix has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Mirko tries to roll out but it's too tight and Mirko has to tap! Slick submission there by Helix!
