PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Russell Brin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ian Kaut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Russell Brin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ian Kaut!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brin throws a sloppy head kick and Kaut moves out of range easily.
Kaut misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Brin connects with a high kick.
Kaut throws a right and a left that both miss.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kaut.
Brin throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Kaut wants to clinch up but Brin keeps it at a distance.
An inside leg kick from Kaut misses.

Brin closes the distance and clinches.
Brin has Kaut pushed against the cage.

Brin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Brin is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kaut sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Kaut gets tackled into the cage by Brin. Brin maintains the clinch.

Brin breaks the clinch.
Kaut tries to clinch up.

Kaut gets a double leg takedown into Brin's guard.
Brin is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Kaut trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Brin lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kaut!

Brin looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Brin prevents Kaut from getting the reversal.
Brin tries to control but Kaut wriggling away.
Kaut really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Brin stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kaut dives in for a single leg takedown but Brin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Kaut looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Brin has Kaut pressed against the cage, preventing Kaut from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Brin connects with a nasty looking knee right to Kaut's face.
Kaut tries to pull guard but Brin won't allow it.
Russell Brin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ian Kaut.

Brin pulls guard effortlessly.

Brin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kaut defends well.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Brin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Russell Brin dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Brin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kaut is fending him off so far but Brin persists. Nope, Kaut circles away and we're back to standing.
Brin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kaut circles away quickly and effectively.
Brin tries to clinch but Kaut moves away

and Kaut counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Kaut is pressing down on Brin's thigh, looking to free his foot. Brin is holding on for now.

Kaut is working for a submission of some sort.
Brin wants to control but Kaut is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brin tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Brin is not content to let Kaut control the position.
Brin regains full guard. Nicely done.
Brin doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Brin is trying to control the position but Kaut postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brin is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kaut is aware though and is defending well.

Brin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kaut has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Brin is proving hard to escape from.
Russell Brin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kaut wants to control from the top but Brin keeps moving.

Brin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kaut can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Brin manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Brin shoots for a takedown but Kaut saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Russell Brin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kaut stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kaut wants it to stay on the feet.

Kaut shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Brin napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Brin is looking for a sweep.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Brin is working hard here to advance position.

Kaut looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brin is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kaut off and has taken his back!

A close second round but Ian Kaut will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Kaut moves in looking to clinch but Brin pushes him off.
Brin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kaut.
Brin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kaut sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Brin somewhat.

Kaut does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Brin rushes Kaut and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Kaut tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Brin just stands there and leans against the cage.
Brin is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Kaut is defending well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kaut is looking for a takedown.
Kaut is trying to pull guard but Brin turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Brin manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Brin controls Kaut momentarily but Kaut frees himself.

Brin wants to improve his position but instead Kaut has moved into half guard.
Kaut wants to pass the guard but Brin is defending well.

Brin has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Kaut has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Kaut wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Brin has him pressed against the cage.

Brin has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kaut uses from the top position.

Kaut stands and steps away. Brin gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Kaut lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Brin has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Brin and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Brin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kaut tries to avoid it but Brin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kaut to the ground. Kaut escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kaut throws a body kick that misses.
Brin shoots for a takedown but Kaut saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Brin shoots in for a double leg but Kaut sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kaut tries to clinch but Brin is having none of it.

Brin gets caught napping as Kaut dives in and scores a takedown. Brin manages to retain guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kaut controls from within his opponent's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Russell Brin.
I think Brin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
