PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mikhail Nis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leon Lance (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leon Lance will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mikhail Nis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Leon Lance!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nis shoots for a takedown but Lance saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nis dives in for a single leg takedown but Lance sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Lance creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Lance wants to get back to striking at distance but Nis won't allow it.
Lance is trying to break the clinch but Nis has him pressed against the cage.
Nis fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mikhail Nis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lance wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Lance gets underhooks to prevent Nis's takedown attempt.
Lance has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Nis has Lance pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Lance manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Nis is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Lance to keep the fight standing.
Still in the clinch, Lance scores with a nice short uppercut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lance tries to circle away but Nis has him pinned against the cage.
Lance wants to break the clinch but can't.
Lance wants to break free but Nis has control.
Lance wants to break free but Nis has control.
Nis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lance just stands there and leans against the cage.
Lance tries to break free but Nis pushes him back against the cage.
Nis is looking to take this one to the mat.

Lance breaks the clinch.
Lance works Nis's body with a nice hook.
Nis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Nis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lance defends well and Nis ends up having to push Lance into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Nis has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Lance clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Lance rolls, trying to escape but Nis keeps control of the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lance keeps trying to improve his position.
Nis scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Lance is looking for a way out.

Nis is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Lance has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Lance is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Nis misses with punches from the back.

Lance is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Nis gets his way!
Lance is in bad spot here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nis is not going to allow Lance to sit and survive in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nis wants to control but Lance is keeping busy.
Nis not allowing Lance to control his hands.
Lance can't escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nis lands with a hammerfist to the side of Lance's head.
Can Lance hold on?! Nis is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Lance grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Nis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lance breaks Nis's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Nis working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Lance has passed into half guard!
My spies in Prolight Knockout inform me that Lance has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Nis wants to get back to full guard.
Lance wants to pass the guard but Nis is defending well.

Nis looking for submissions off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nis works his way to full guard. Good work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Lance slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Lance is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Nis has escaped the position, nice work there.
Lance sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Nis is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Nis gets back to half guard.
Lance trying to control from half guard but Nis is working away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Lance is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Lance prevents Nis from improving his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Leon Lance will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Nis shoots in and drives through. Lance sprawls well.
Lance tries to bum rush Nis with a series of wild strikes but Nis uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Nis shoots in for a takedown but Lance shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Lance gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Lance wants to stand and escape but Nis is having none of it.
Nis looking to sit in guard and control but Lance gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Nis wants to sweep here but Lance controlling him for the moment.
Nis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lance's guard.

Lance looking for a triangle here. Nis is fighting it but it looks tight! Lance pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Nis is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Leon Lance!
