PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Meyner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joel Silver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silver is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by My Eyes O.O. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silver misses with an uppercut
and Meyner counters with a body kick.

Silver changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Meyner looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Silver is looking to take a break and control but Meyner is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Meyner struggling a bit here.

Silver goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Meyner rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Silver's guard! Nice work there by Meyner !

Silver has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Meyner has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Silver fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Silver is trying to pull guard but Meyner turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Silver slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Meyner tries to roll over but Silver keeps him under control.
Silver wants to lay and pray for a moment but Meyner keeps working.
Meyner looks like he's trying to stand up.
Silver looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Silver is keen to just control but Meyner is a slippery customer.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Meyner is looking to escape.
Meyner really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Meyner trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Silver wants to control but Meyner is keeping him busy.
Silver controlling the action here.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Joel Silver was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Silver misses with a takedown
and Meyner counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
John Meyner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joel Silver.

Meyner gets caught flat footed, as Silver shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Silver drops back, looking for a kneebar! Meyner looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Meyner looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Meyner !

Silver is trying to control Meyner 's posture but Meyner avoids it.
Silver tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Meyner wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Silver avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Meyner .
You can see the frustration on Silver's face as Meyner controls the position.
Silver wants to control but Meyner postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Meyner is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Silver is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

I wouldn't like to be where Silver is right now.
Meyner is looking to take a break and control but Silver is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Silver gets back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silver wants to control but Meyner passes into side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joel Silver dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Meyner tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silver swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Silver looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Meyner !
Silver creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Meyner sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
A bit of a lull in the action here.
Meyner manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Silver slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Meyner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Silver has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Meyner has managed to get both his arms back between Silver's legs - danger averted.
Joel Silver has got the better of the ground game so far.

Silver is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Silver is breathing heavily.
Silver trying to keep a closed guard but Meyner is proving a slippery customer.

Meyner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Meyner wants to get up but he can't break Silver's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

We're going to have a standup here because John Meyner wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Meyner .

Meyner has taken the fight to the clinch.
Meyner lands a knee to the head.
Silver stops a takedown attempt from Meyner .
Meyner jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Silver walks away with a smile on his face. Meyner gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Meyner . That's going to take a lot out of him.

Silver throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Meyner was covering up waiting for the punch and Silver finishes the takedown easily into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Silver sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Meyner 's guard.

Silver is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Meyner sees it coming and defends easily.
Silver wants to pass the guard but Meyner is defending well.
Meyner is staying active underneath Silver, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Meyner wants to get back to full guard.

Silver is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Meyner doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Silver.
Silver seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Silver is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Meyner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Meyner tries to clinch but Silver is having none of it.
Silver looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Meyner shoots for a double leg takedown but Silver sprawls well. He's pushed Meyner 's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Meyner drives through and clinches with Silver against the cage.
Meyner stalls.
Silver wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Meyner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Meyner moves in looking to clinch but Silver pushes him off.
Meyner is looking to land body kicks.

Meyner bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Silver tries to buck Meyner off but Meyner is having none of it.
Silver is trying to control Meyner 's posture but Meyner avoids it.
Silver tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Silver manages to get back to half guard.
Silver controlling the position for now.
Silver tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Meyner has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Meyner wants to control the pace but Silver is squirming around nicely.
Silver tries to control Meyner 's body but Meyner pushes him off. Silver squirms to his side and now Meyner has his back!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Silver is looking to advance position but Meyner has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to John Meyner .
I think Silver has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
