PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Byrne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and William Harrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that William Harrison was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, David Byrne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 24 - 0, fighting out of London, William Harrison!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Steven Brown and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harrison shoots in looking for a takedown. Byrne tries to sprawl out of it but Harrison keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Byrne manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Byrne stuns Harrison with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Byrne fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Byrne tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Byrne lands a high kick!


It looks like William Harrison has been cut.

Byrne gets caught flat footed, as Harrison shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Harrison wants to pass the guard but Byrne is keeping the position.

Byrne has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Harrison can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Harrison is pushing down on Byrne's leg trying to pass to half guard. Byrne is fighting to maintain full guard but Harrison has managed to sneak the leg through.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of David Byrne.

With the fighters up against the cage, Byrne throws an elbow but misses.
Harrison has Byrne pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Byrne manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

David Byrne has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of William Harrison.

I was talking to Byrne's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Byrne takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Harrison tries to pull guard but Byrne holds him up against the cage and eventually Harrison drops back down to his feet.
Come on Byrne - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Harrison has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Byrne is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Byrne using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Harrison has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Byrne lands an elbow just above Harrison 's eye.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Byrne is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Byrne is pressed up against the cage. Harrison has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Byrne down to the mat. Byrne avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Harrison goes for a double leg but Byrne avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Byrne continues to drive forward.
Byrne misses with a hook to the ribs.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Harrison changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Byrne fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Byrne lands with a good body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Harrison tries for a takedown but Byrne sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Byrne throws a quick inside leg kick.
Byrne stuns Harrison with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Byrne thuds his right hand into Harrison's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Harrison moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Byrne cracks Harrison with a right hand to the side of the head.
Byrne connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Harrison shoots in and drives through. Byrne sprawls well.
Harrison is still on wobbly legs! Can Byrne finish him?
Harrison is trying hard to land a takedown here. Byrne sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Harrison seems to have recovered his senses.
David Byrne has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of William Harrison.
Harrison is breathing heavily.

Byrne cracks Harrison with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Byrne has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Harrison to stand back up!


That has opened up William Harrison's cut even more.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Harrison throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Byrne's waist but Byrne gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Harrison off to one side.

Byrne thuds a left hand into Harrison's body.
Byrne lands with a straight right. Harrison didn't see that one coming.

Byrne throws an overhand right that drops Harrison like a sack of potatoes! Byrne dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). David Byrne!
During a confident post fight interview, David Byrne thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
