The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palluza throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Phillips stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Palluza thows a body shot but no joy.
Palluza has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Palluza misses with a jab, cross combination.
Nice cross by Palluza.
Palluza lands an overhand right.
Palluza fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Phillips looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Phillips getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Palluza's jab looks to have found its range, popping Phillips under the eye.
No joy there for Palluza, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Palluza lands a right hook to the body.
Palluza uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Phillips has time to react.
Phillips lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Palluza at a distance.
Decent striking displayed by Palluza there.

Palluza keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Palluza wants to get back to his feet but Phillips passes into half guard.
Palluza is trying to maintain the position but Phillips is very close to passing his half guard.

Phillips in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Palluza tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Phillips!

A less than humble Mark Phillips misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
