The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boev tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Callen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Boev's coach down at Renegade Fighting Systems was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Boev's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Boev wants to clinch
and Callen counters with a straight right hand.
Dimitar Boev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Callen throws a hook but Boev blocks it.
Boev shoots in for a takedown but Callen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Callen slips a jab and a cross from Boev.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Boev holds on and takes a little breather.
Boev is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Callen has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Boev is proving hard to escape from.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Boev is on top in guard.
Boev slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Boev wanted to stand there but Callen had control of the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
