PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Cools (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John McClain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McClain has chosen "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Josh West and Roger Salmon.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cools wants to clinch up but McClain keeps it at a distance.
Cools dodges the punch combination from McClain.
John McClain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cools shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McClain as he jumps to the side.
McClain misses with a lunging right hand

and Cools moves into the clinch.

Cools decides to pull guard.

Cools is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McClain is aware though and is defending well.
McClain wants to stand but Cools is controlling his posture from full guard.
McClain must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cools tries to land a sweep but no joy.
McClain wants to stand and escape but instead Cools has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Cools trying to control but McClain is working from the bottom.
McClain wants to stand up but Cools is controlling him.

Cools decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on McClain, up you get!

Cools gets in close and instigates a clinch.

McClain escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sloppy strikes from McClain. Those never looked like landing.
McClain throws a right and a left that Cools avoids nicely.
Cools throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Cools darts in and clinches McClain up against the cage.
McClain wants to break free but Cools has control.
Cools drops to a knee looking for a takedown but McClain gets the underhooks and prevents it.
McClain managing to block the knees to the body from Cools.
McClain can't break the clinch.
McClain wants to break the clinch but can't.
McClain is trying to push Cools away but Cools has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
McClain tries to break the clinch but Cools is controlling the position.
McClain wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Cools gets control of McClain's arms and successfully pulls guard. Cools will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
McClain really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cools. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
McClain tries to stand but Cools is controlling from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McClain wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Cools's closed guard. He's half up but Cools has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Cools pivots and extends the arm, McClain falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Cools! Well done that man!
