PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Herbert Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyrone Wallace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Tyrone Wallace was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Herbert Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyrone Wallace!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paulsen Ambrosius and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Hughes fails with an attempt to clinch.
Herbert Hughes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wallace drives through and clinches with Hughes against the ropes.
Wallace drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hughes pulls his leg out and moves away.
Wallace shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hughes pinned against the ropes. Hughes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hughes misses with a lunging right hand
and Wallace counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Hughes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Hughes postures up.
Hughes missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hughes trying to control the position from guard on top but Wallace is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hughes is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Wallace is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
We've been hearing that Hughes has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Wallace looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hughes is one step ahead there.
Hughes working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Wallace tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Wallace has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Wallace clinches with his opponent.
Come on Wallace - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Hughes has Wallace pushed against the ropes.
Wallace prevents Hughes from breaking the clinch.

Wallace works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Wallace prevents Hughes from getting back to his feet.

Hughes has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Wallace is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hughes.

Hughes manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Hughes wants to pass to mount but Wallace is defending the position.

Hughes is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wallace has managed to free his arm - good work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Wallace is looking to control Hughes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wallace avoid being mounted?
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hughes lands a nice short elbow.
Hughes thows a huge punch but Wallace dodges it nicely.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Hughes prevents Wallace from standing back up.
Wallace slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Wallace is adopting a defensive guard.
Wallace preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Wallace is pulling down on Hughes's head to control his posture.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Wallace keeping moving, preventing Hughes from controlling successfully.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wallace is on top in guard.
Hughes wants to sweep here but Wallace controlling him for the moment.
Hughes bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wallace's guard.

Wallace will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Hughes throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Wallace works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wallace is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Wallace wants to sweep here but Hughes controlling him for the moment.
Wallace looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Wallace is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wallace is on top in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hughes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wallace wants to control from the top but Hughes keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tyrone Wallace will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Hughes lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Wallace has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Wallace and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Wallace takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Wallace checks a leg kick.

Wallace looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
My spies in LOD: Gym of the Gods inform me that Wallace has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Hughes wants to improve his position but Wallace is controlling well.
Wallace thows a huge punch but Hughes dodges it nicely.
Nice strikes from Wallace there.
Wallace wants to pass the guard but Hughes is defending well.
Hughes is looking for a sweep. Wallace is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Wallace seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hughes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hughes keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Hughes wants to control but Wallace is keeping busy.
Wallace scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Wallace wants to stand but Hughes has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Wallace works his way into side control.
Tyrone Wallace has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hughes is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Wallace is chipping away with strikes.
Wallace works to advance to full mount. Hughes defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Hughes is desperately trying to improve his position but Wallace has a good base and remains in mount.
Wallace scoring with strikes but Hughes is staying in there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hughes tries to lock up and control but Wallace gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hughes working to try and regain half guard.
Hughes is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hughes can't escape the position.
Wallace working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Hughes is looking to improve his position but Wallace isn't that keen on the idea.

Wallace lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hughes hang on?

Wallace lands a heavy elbow.
Oh Hughes is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wallace cracks Hughes with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
