PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Staph Aureus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seifer Shinra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Staph Aureus has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Staph Aureus seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shinra has his takedown stuffed
and Aureus counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

and Aureus makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Staph Aureus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Seifer Shinra.

Aureus throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Aureus tries to land knees in the clinch but Shinra avoids the damage to the body.
Shinra blocks an elbow strike.
Shinra takes a knee to the side of the body.

Aureus tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Shinra wants a takedown.
Aureus lands an elbow inside that Shinra shrugs off.
Shinra has Aureus pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Aureus manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Shinra pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Shinra closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Aureus did well to prevent Shinra getting side control.

Shinra seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Aureus does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Shinra got a little sloppy there for a moment and Aureus has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shinra has managed to get both his arms back between Aureus's legs - danger averted.

It looks like Staph Aureus has been cut.
Shinra stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Aureus swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Shinra with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Staph Aureus's cut is getting worse.

Shinra throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Aureus to regain full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Shinra drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Aureus manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Shinra has Aureus in his guard.

Aureus shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shinra's guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Aureus working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shinra doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shinra manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Aureus has his foot on Shinra's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shinra works his way back into a safe position though.
