Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carmelo Xuxu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carmelo Xuxu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anthony Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Luis Engracia and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pettis has taken the fight to the clinch.

Pettis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Pettis gets the takedown into side control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Xuxu is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Pettis asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Pettis decides to stand back up. Pettis steps back and let's Xuxu get back to his feet.
Xuxu throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Xuxu closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Carmelo Xuxu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Pettis drives through and clinches with Xuxu against the cage.
Pettis stalling against the cage.
Pettis has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Xuxu is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Pettis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Xuxu misses with a left hand
and Pettis counters with a two punch combo.

Pettis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Pettis controls the position.

Pettis is trying to get an arm triangle but Xuxu is defending well.
Pettis scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Xuxu to see if he's OK.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Xuxu seems a little lost for a moment, as Pettis dominates the positioning.

Pettis stands up and beckons Xuxu to his feet.
Xuxu misses with an uppercut.
Xuxu is breathing heavily.
Pettis moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Pettis gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Xuxu is trying to break the clinch but Pettis has him pressed against the cage.
Xuxu can't break the clinch.
Pettis tries to work over Xuxu's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Stalling in the clinch from Pettis.

Pettis's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Pettis drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Xuxu has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Pettis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Pettis breaks from the clinch.
Xuxu throws a jab when Pettis was well out of range.
Xuxu connects with a nice looking jab.
Xuxu misses the jab.
Pettis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Xuxu tries to avoid it but Pettis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Xuxu to the ground. Xuxu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Carmelo Xuxu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Pettis.
Xuxu lands with a shot to the body.
Xuxu connects with a jab.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pettis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Xuxu sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pettis somewhat.
Carmelo Xuxu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Pettis ducks under a wild hook from Xuxu.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xuxu tries to keep at a distance but Pettis has taken the fight into the clinch.

Pettis has hold of one of Xuxu's legs. Xuxu is fighting the takedown attempt but Pettis gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Pettis looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Pettis is looking for a kimura here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Xuxu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Pettis performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Xuxu might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Anthony Pettis wasn't active enough on the ground.
Pettis slips a straight right by Xuxu.
Pettis slips under a jab from Xuxu.
Pettis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Xuxu throws out a loose jab but Pettis uses good head movement to avoid it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and Pettis counters with a nice body kick.

and Pettis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Pettis.
Anthony Pettis has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pettis is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Xuxu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Pettis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Anthony Pettis hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Pettis shoots in for a takedown but Xuxu shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Pettis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Xuxu was covering up waiting for the punch and Pettis finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Anthony Pettis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Pettis fails with a takedown attempt.

Pettis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Pettis is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Pettis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The fighters circle momentarily. Xuxu darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Xuxu avoids the body shot from Pettis.

Xuxu fails to land with a series of punches.

Xuxu tries to circle away but Pettis has him pinned against the cage.
Xuxu is trying to force a seperation but Pettis has the dominant position.

Pettis shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Let's hope that Pettis has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Pettis scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pettis in particular looking to stall.
Carmelo Xuxu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Anthony Pettis was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Pettis with a flurry of punches that miss.
Pettis with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pettis is taking a breather. Xuxu says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anthony Pettis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Pettis winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
