Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rickson Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luke Cage!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cage lands with an overhand left.
Alves looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Cage tries to bum rush Alves with a series of wild strikes but Alves uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Cage decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
It looks like Cage is going to stand back up.
Cage missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Cage seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Cage tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Cage prevents Alves from improving his position.

Cage tries to stand and escape but Alves is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Cage feints and as Alves raises his hands in defense, Cage changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Alves throws his legs up looking for a submission but Cage uses it to pass to side control.
Cage tries to move to mount but Alves blocks the move with his legs.
Cage throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Cage is chipping away with strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cage lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Alves down.
Cage is looking to take a break and control but Alves is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cage really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Alves is looking for a sweep.

Cage stands up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cage looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Cage feints and as Alves raises his hands in defense, Cage changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Alves tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Alves has momentary wrist control but Cage slips an elbow through the middle.

Cage working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Cage trying to control the position from guard on top but Alves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cage seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Alves is trying to keep Cage in close.
Cage passes Alves's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cage landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Cage stalling.
Alves tries to get to full guard but Cage has control of the leg.
Cage performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Cage seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Alves actively working from the bottom here.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Alves moves forwards but Cage connects with a nice, crisp jab.
A combination from Cage does no damage.
Cage throws a lazy right hand but Alves sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Cage counters with a single leg into guard. Alves didn't expect that.

Cage decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Cage misses with a few strikes there.
Cage tries to bum rush Alves with a series of wild strikes but Alves uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cage throws a leg kick but Alves sees it coming and moves out of range.
Alves has his takedown stuffed

and Cage counters with a single leg into guard. Alves didn't expect that.
Alves is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Alves wants to hit a switch here but Cage passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Alves there!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cage with a couple of short strikes.
The referee warns Alves that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Cage content just to control the position here.
Cage's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Alves tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cage sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Cage trying to control but Alves is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Luke Cage.
A combination from Cage does no damage.
Rickson Alves is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cage tries to clinch up but Alves circles away and keeps his distance.
Alves shoots and misses

and Cage counters with a shoot takedown. Alves fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rickson Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Alves working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cage doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cage manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cage stands up over Alves, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Alves avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Alves has momentary wrist control but Cage slips an elbow through the middle.

Alves is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Cage trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Alves looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luke Cage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Cage wants to stand but Alves has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Cage postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Alves to stand up.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cage controlling from mount.

Cage landing punches.
Cage raining down shots from the mount!
Cage landing strikes from the mount.
Cage prevents Alves from getting the reversal.
Alves is working hard here to advance position.

Alves is in all sorts of trouble here.

Cage can't control as he wanted to and Alves manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Cage tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Alves.
Cage trying to pass the guard but Alves defending well.
Cage tries to stand but can't do so whilst Alves controls his leg.
Alves gets full guard.
Alves has momentary wrist control but Cage slips an elbow through the middle.
Cage scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Cage tries to free his leg and advance position but Alves is retaining full guard.
Cage wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving.
Cage pushing down on Alves's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Cage is nestled in close to Alves, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Alves tries to roll over but Cage keeps him under control.
Cage looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cage decides to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cage wants to slow Alves down by chopping away at his legs.
Cage misses with an uppercut. Alves saw that one coming.
Cage tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Cage throws a shot from downtown. Alves moves away and avoids it.
Alves gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Cage counters with a left and a right that stings Alves.
Alves fails with the takedown

and Cage counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Cage.
Alves can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cage controls the pace.
Rickson Alves has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Alves has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Cage doesn't defend quickly enough and Alves has managed to lock this one up! Can Cage escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Alves on a fantastic submission victory.
