PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Cardone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Mamba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mamba has chosen Here Comes The Hotstepper as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mamba dives in and grabs Cardone's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cardone pushes down on Mamba's head and hops out.
Bobby Mamba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cardone drives through with a takedown into Mamba's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Cardone trying to control but Mamba is working from the bottom.
Mamba has his hands on Cardone's head, controlling the position.
Cardone has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mamba looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cardone is one step ahead there.
Cardone looking to sit in guard and control but Mamba gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mamba sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cardone's guard.

Mamba is looking for a kimura but Cardone is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mamba to get the leverage.

Mamba decides to stand back up. Mamba steps back and let's Cardone get back to his feet.

Mamba is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Cardone is working an open guard so Mamba takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mamba seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Mamba controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Mamba with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Cardone working for submissions but it's allowed Mamba to get to half guard.
Cardone is breathing heavily.

Mamba is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cardone doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mamba.

Mamba is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cardone is just riding it out for now. Mamba eventually gives up the hold.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mamba misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Cardone shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Cardone tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mamba knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Mamba tries to roll over but Cardone keeps him under control.

Mamba is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Cardone wants to pass the guard but Mamba is defending well.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Cardone is keen to just control but Mamba is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Cardone shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cardone was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Mamba is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cardone off and has taken his back!
