Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Robbie McStar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Malcolm Hopkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hopkins has chosen Mobb Deep - Shook Ones Part II as his entrance music. Robbie McStar has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Robbie McStar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Malcolm Hopkins!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Andrew Berry and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McStar slips under a jab from Hopkins.
Hopkins looks to land a left hand but McStar moved out of range nicely.
Hopkins looks to score with a jab to the body but McStar is just out of range.
A thudding body kick lands there by Hopkins!
Hopkins connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between McStar's hands.
No luck for McStar with that takedown attempt.
Hopkins fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
McStar tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hopkins defends well and McStar ends up having to push Hopkins into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
I was talking to McStar's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Hopkins pushes McStar back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
McStar wants to take the fight to the mat but Hopkins manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robbie McStar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McStar is looking for a takedown.
Hopkins tried to land a shot to the body but connects with McStar's elbow.
Hopkins trying to control the position but instead, McStar has worked for underhooks and has pushed Hopkins into the cage.
McStar prevents a takedown attempt there.

McStar tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Hopkins misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Hopkins is pressed up against the cage. McStar has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hopkins down to the mat. Hopkins avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Hopkins motions for McStar to come forward. Hopkins throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Hopkins has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
McStar shoots in and drives through. Hopkins sprawls well.
McStar shoots in but Hopkins avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Hopkins connects with a crisp jab.
Hopkins looks to score with a jab to the body but McStar is just out of range.

McStar tries to move into range but Hopkins moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
That kick from Hopkins tenderised McStar's leg. McStar is trying to keep his angry face on.
Robbie McStar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McStar shoots and misses

and Hopkins counters with a nice double leg into side control. McStar won't be happy with that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McStar tries to escape but Hopkins is in control.
McStar prevents Hopkins from moving into mount.
McStar tries to strike but it doesn't land.

Hopkins is trying to get an arm triangle but McStar is defending well.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Hopkins wants to control but McStar is keeping him busy.

Hopkins wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McStar, who protects the arm well.

Hopkins is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McStar is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
McStar tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Hopkins tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
McStar tries to bench press Hopkins off him but Hopkins keeps the position.
Hopkins working the body and head with strikes.
Hopkins trying to control the position but McStar is working away.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Hopkins tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hopkins has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

McStar is trying to improve his position.
McStar is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Hopkins has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Hopkins tries to advance to mount but McStar denies him.
McStar is not content to let Hopkins control the position.

Hopkins goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, McStar has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hopkins but great work by McStar.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hopkins is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Hopkins moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McStar loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McStar wants to improve his position but Hopkins is controlling well.

McStar scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Hopkins manages to mount him!

McStar is looking to work some ground and pound but Hopkins has wrist control.

Hopkins tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Hopkins can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McStar is looking to escape.
McStar manages to regain half guard. Good work.

McStar is looking for a sweep. Hopkins is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

McStar fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hopkins avoids it really well and circles away.

McStar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

McStar is nestled in close to Hopkins, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
This has been an exciting period of action!

McStar is just content to waste time from the top position. Hopkins takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

McStar has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
McStar throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hopkins works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

McStar wants to advance to full mount but Hopkins doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
McStar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hopkins swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hopkins holds on and takes a little breather.
Hopkins trying to keep a closed guard but McStar is proving a slippery customer.
Hopkins is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McStar in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Robbie McStar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hopkins not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

I would just about give that final round to Malcolm Hopkins.
Well Hopkins has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
