Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel McDermott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryoto Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machida has chosen Bleed It Out as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDermott fails with a takedown attempt.
McDermott shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Machida defends it nicely.
McDermott tries to score a power double leg takedown but Machida sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten McDermott somewhat.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

McDermott breaks from Machida's wrist control and lands an elbow.

McDermott is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Machida has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Machida!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

McDermott on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if McDermott tries to get out of the position.

McDermott manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Machida manages to get himself to full guard.

Daniel McDermott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McDermott looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting McDermott here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
McDermott changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Machida tries to avoid it but McDermott manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Machida to the ground. Machida escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
McDermott shoots in but Machida avoids the takedown attempt easily.

McDermott instigates a clinch.
Machida wants to get back to striking at distance but McDermott won't allow it.
McDermott has Machida pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Machida manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Machida breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
McDermott shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Machida but Machida pushes him off and we're back to square one.

McDermott throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Machida ducks under a wild hook from McDermott.

McDermott closes the distance and clinches up with Machida, looking for a takedown. McDermott pushes Machida against the cage but Machida circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
McDermott is looking to clinch.
McDermott looks to throw the jab but Machida is out of range.
McDermott misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from McDermott is defended easily by Machida.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



McDermott throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Machida was covering up waiting for the punch and McDermott finishes the takedown easily into guard.
McDermott is looking to work some ground and pound but Machida has wrist control.
Machida wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Let's hope that Machida has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Machida is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

McDermott has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ryoto Machida has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
McDermott shoots in for a takedown but Machida shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for McDermott, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
