PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Antonia Acevedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Klaim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Antonia Acevedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ben Klaim!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Acevedo circles away from the clinch attempt
and Acevedo counters with a stiff right hand.
Acevedo throws a head kick that misses.
Acevedo wants to clinch up but Klaim keeps it at a distance.
Klaim throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Klaim tries for a takedown but Acevedo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Acevedo tries to clinch but Klaim is having none of it.

Klaim closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Klaim throwing shots but Acevedo is blocking nicely.
Acevedo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Klaim seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Acevedo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Acevedo gets full guard.
Acevedo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Klaim wants to control from the top but Acevedo keeps moving.

Klaim decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Acevedo, up you get!
Acevedo circles away from the clinch attempt.
Acevedo shoots for a double leg takedown but Klaim sprawls well. He's pushed Acevedo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Klaim counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Klaim is looking for a kimura but Acevedo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Klaim to get the leverage.
Acevedo tries to roll over but Klaim keeps him under control.

Klaim seems to be looking for submissions.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Acevedo wants to stand back up but Klaim manages to pass into side control.
Klaim working the body and head with strikes.
Acevedo sneaks back into half guard.
Klaim with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Acevedo is looking to improve his position.
Acevedo is breathing heavily.
Klaim controlling the pace.

Klaim seems to be working for a kimura but Acevedo defends the submission attempt.
Acevedo wants to control but Klaim is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Klaim takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Acevedo manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Klaim drives through with a takedown into guard.
Klaim trying to control but Acevedo is working from the bottom.
Klaim advances to half guard.
Klaim stalling away here and it's allowed Acevedo to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Klaim stands up and waves to Acevedo to follow him.
Acevedo throws a nice looking combination but Klaim bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ben Klaim dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Acevedo moves in looking to clinch but Klaim pushes him off.
Acevedo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Klaim is fending him off so far but Acevedo persists. Nope, Klaim circles away and we're back to standing.

Klaim clinches up against the cage.
Klaim putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Acevedo in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Acevedo manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Acevedo has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Klaim has passed into side control.
Acevedo is not content to let Klaim control the position.

Acevedo is working to avoid the ground and pound but Klaim connects with a decent elbow.

Klaim has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Acevedo misses with a takedown
and Klaim makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Klaim shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Acevedo sprawls well. Acevedo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Klaim gets slowly back to his feet.

Klaim shoots in looking for a takedown but Acevedo manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Klaim's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Antonia Acevedo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Klaim.

Klaim will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Klaim shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Acevedo pinned against the cage. Acevedo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Klaim tries to advance to mount but Acevedo denies him.
Acevedo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Klaim wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Klaim grinds an elbow into Acevedo's temple.
Acevedo looking for a sweep but Klaim has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Klaim connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Acevedo tries to improve his position but instead Klaim has taken his back!
Acevedo breaks Klaim's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Acevedo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Klaim wants to stand and escape but Acevedo is having none of it.
Klaim is trying to control the position but Acevedo postures up.
Klaim wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Acevedo is now in half guard.

Klaim is looking for a sweep. Acevedo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Acevedo stalling away here and it's allowed Klaim to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Klaim manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Acevedo manages to get himself to full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Klaim wants to stand and escape but instead Acevedo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ben Klaim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Acevedo fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Klaim goes for a takedown in the clinch but Acevedo prevents it.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Klaim takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Klaim throws a punch but it's blocked by Acevedo.
Acevedo tries to pull guard but Klaim forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Acevedo has Klaim pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Klaim manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Antonia Acevedo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Klaim is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Acevedo is defending well.
Acevedo wants to take the fight to the mat but Klaim manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Klaim tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Acevedo just stands there and leans against the cage.

Klaim breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Klaim avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Acevedo fails with the takedown
and Klaim counters with a head kick.
Klaim takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Klaim shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Acevedo defends it nicely.

Acevedo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Klaim.
Acevedo lands with a nice combination. Klaim backs away looking to recover.
Klaim circles away from the clinch attempt.
Acevedo tries to clinch but Klaim moves out of range.
Acevedo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Klaim avoids it really well and circles away.

Acevedo closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Klaim is trying to drag Acevedo to the mat but Acevedo just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Acevedo jumps guard but Klaim stands there with Acevedo around his waist. Acevedo gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Klaim's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Acevedo is trying to pull guard but Klaim has him pressed against the cage.

Klaim gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Acevedo regains guard.

Acevedo seems keen to control Klaim's posture.
Acevedo manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Acevedo avoids the attempt from Klaim to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Antonia Acevedo.
I think Klaim has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
