PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Romario de Lima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dog Alpha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). de Lima comes to the cage accompanied by Sepultura - Escape To the Void. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Romario de Lima!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dog Alpha!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Emerson Jorge and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
de Lima tries to clinch up.
de Lima throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Alpha.

de Lima scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Alpha is looking to control de Lima's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Alpha avoid being mounted?
Alpha is trying to get back to full guard.
de Lima prevents Alpha from standing back up.
Alpha slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Alpha is trying to keep de Lima in close.

Alpha working for a triangle but de Lima defends it easily.
Alpha not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

de Lima stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alpha swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Alpha changes levels and goes for a takedown here. de Lima fights it off and pushes away nicely.

de Lima closes the distance and clinches.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Alpha blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Alpha pressing his opponent against the cage.
Alpha throws a knee to the head but misses.
de Lima prevents a takedown attempt there.
Romario de Lima has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dog Alpha.
Alpha tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. de Lima smiles and moves away.

Alpha looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Alpha tries to pass the half guard into mount. de Lima knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Alpha prevents de Lima from improving his position.
de Lima preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
de Lima won't allow Alpha to pass to mount.
de Lima avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Alpha.
Alpha is just content to waste time from the top position. de Lima takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
de Lima moves out of range of the body kick from Alpha.

Alpha scores a takedown into full mount!
Alpha throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Alpha controlling the position easily from mount.
Alpha looking to ground and pound but de Lima is blocking nicely.
Alpha sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

A close round but Dog Alpha will probably get the nod.

Alpha shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Alpha wanted to stand there but de Lima had control of the position.
de Lima manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Alpha manages to get himself to full guard.
Alpha is trying to keep de Lima in close.
Alpha doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Alpha wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and de Lima manages to pass to side control.

de Lima looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Alpha is trying to stand.
Alpha is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Alpha lands a right hook to the body.

Alpha feints and as de Lima raises his hands in defense, Alpha changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Alpha scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Alpha stands and throws de Lima's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Alpha stands up and we're back to a striking position.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from de Lima.

Alpha has managed to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Alpha ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Alpha no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Alpha wants to stand and escape but de Lima is having none of it.
de Lima trying to control but Alpha is working from the bottom.

Alpha kicks de Lima off and gets to his feet.
Alpha fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Alpha stands and steps away. de Lima gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Alpha throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Alpha rushes de Lima and presses him up against the cage.

Alpha escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Alpha scores a takedown into full mount!

Alpha is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. de Lima can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
de Lima tries to hold on but Alpha pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dog Alpha showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Alpha moves into range and clinches up with de Lima.
de Lima is pressed up against the cage. Alpha has hold of a leg and is looking to drag de Lima down to the mat. de Lima avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
de Lima stuffs the takedown attempt from Alpha. Alpha gets slowly back to his feet.

and Alpha counters with a nice double leg into side control. de Lima won't be happy with that.
Alpha wants to control but de Lima is keeping him busy.

Alpha goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, de Lima has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Alpha but great work by de Lima.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Alpha wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

de Lima tries for a kimura but Alpha is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alpha tries to bench press de Lima off him but de Lima keeps the position.
Alpha sneaks back into half guard.
Alpha moves into full guard.
Alpha trying to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Alpha tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Alpha is trying to keep de Lima in close.

Alpha has his foot on de Lima's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. de Lima works his way back into a safe position though.

de Lima drops back, looking for a kneebar! Alpha looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Alpha looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Alpha!

de Lima can't do much from the bottom here.

Alpha looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Alpha grinds an elbow into de Lima's temple.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Alpha moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Alpha stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Romario de Lima has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
de Lima uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Alpha.

Alpha decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Alpha is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. de Lima doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Alpha.
Alpha is trying to control the action in half guard but de Lima is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dog Alpha comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Alpha has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
