PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nicolas De Ertu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alex Cross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nicolas De Ertu!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cross pushes De Ertu up against the cage in a clinch.

De Ertu pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
De Ertu throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Cross drives through and clinches with De Ertu against the cage.
De Ertu avoiding damage as Cross throws knees to the body.

De Ertu is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Cross can't fight it off and eventually De Ertu manages to take the fight to the floor. Cross looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
De Ertu controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Cross knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for De Ertu on the ground.
Cross has De Ertu pulled in close to control his posture.
De Ertu is working Cross over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells De Ertu's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Cross looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but De Ertu puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
De Ertu scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Cross is trying to stand up here but De Ertu is controlling him well.
De Ertu is taking a breather. Cross says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Nice strikes from De Ertu there.

De Ertu stalling.
De Ertu slips a nice elbow through Cross's hands, connecting with Cross's forehead.
De Ertu tries to pass to full mount but Cross defends it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. De Ertu connects with a nice short shot to Cross's temple.
De Ertu stalling.
De Ertu working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
De Ertu wants to stand up but Cross is controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
De Ertu perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nicolas De Ertu was stalling too much, according to the referee.
De Ertu throws a series of punches but Cross avoids them all with ease.

De Ertu closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cross quickly recovers to half guard.
Cross is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
De Ertu thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cross's head.

De Ertu gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Cross clinches up with De Ertu and pushes him back against the cage.

De Ertu manages to break the clinch.

De Ertu fails with the takedown.
A left and a right from De Ertu both land. Nice combination.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cross darts in and clinches De Ertu up against the cage.

De Ertu pulls guard successfully.
De Ertu trying to strike off his back.
Cross trying to control the position from guard on top but De Ertu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

De Ertu is looking for a triangle but Cross pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

De Ertu has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cross can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cross misses with a head kick.
De Ertu tries for a takedown but Cross sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

De Ertu closes the distance and pushes Cross back into the cage.

De Ertu pulls guard effortlessly.

De Ertu has his foot on Cross's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cross works his way back into a safe position though.

Cross passes into half guard.
Cross is nestled in close to De Ertu, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
De Ertu lands a couple of sideways elbows.
De Ertu regains full guard. Nicely done.
Cross with a flurry of punches that miss.
Cross wants to control from the top but De Ertu keeps moving.
Cross is looking to stand up but De Ertu won't let him.

De Ertu is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
De Ertu wants to sweep here but Cross controlling him for the moment.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
De Ertu keeping moving, preventing Cross from controlling successfully.

We're going to have a standup here because Alex Cross wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
De Ertu moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

De Ertu shoots in and bounces Cross off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
De Ertu wants to stand but Cross is controlling his posture from full guard.

De Ertu is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

De Ertu not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Cross can't keep his opponent in guard - De Ertu advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

De Ertu looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
De Ertu takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nicolas De Ertu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


De Ertu throws a nice looking combination but Cross bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
De Ertu lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Cross goes for a double leg but De Ertu avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as De Ertu continues to drive forward.

De Ertu jumps guard.
Cross wants to stand and escape but instead De Ertu has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
De Ertu is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Nicolas De Ertu has got the better of the ground game so far.
Cross avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
De Ertu trying to control but Cross is working from the bottom.
De Ertu would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
De Ertu trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nicolas De Ertu was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Cross takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Cross is trying hard to land a takedown here. De Ertu sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Cross takes a swing at De Ertu's ribcage but misses.
De Ertu shoots in for a takedown but Cross shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Cross gets tackled into the cage by De Ertu. De Ertu maintains the clinch.
Cross misses with a body punch.

De Ertu breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

De Ertu looks for the body kick but Cross saw that one coming.
De Ertu tries to clinch but Cross moves out of range.
De Ertu shoots in looking for a takedown. Cross tries to sprawl out of it but De Ertu keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cross manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

De Ertu rushes Cross and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
De Ertu slows down the pace here.
De Ertu wants a takedown but no success here.
Alex Cross has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nicolas De Ertu.
De Ertu keeps control of Cross as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

De Ertu is working Cross over against the cage.

De Ertu pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Cross is not content to let De Ertu control the position.
You can see the frustration on Cross's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
De Ertu happy to just control the position for now.
De Ertu working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

De Ertu controls the position.
Nicolas De Ertu is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
De Ertu's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cross tries to escape but De Ertu is in control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nicolas De Ertu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well De Ertu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Nicolas De Ertu misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
