Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Calzaghe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gomi comes to the cage accompanied by Slaap lekker!. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Edson Gomes and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Calzaghe. No joy for Gomi on that attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Calzaghe. Those never looked like landing.
Gomi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Calzaghe swivels and escapes.
Gomi scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Gomi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Calzaghe, pushing him back against the cage.
Gomi drags the fight down to the ground.

Gomi trying to keep a closed guard but Calzaghe is proving a slippery customer.
Gomi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Calzaghe manages to get himself to full guard.

Gomi slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gomi makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gomi connects with a couple of short punches.
Calzaghe keeping moving, preventing Gomi from controlling successfully.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Gomi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Gomi with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Calzaghe looking for a guillotine here but Gomi defends easily.
Calzaghe is looking to cinch up a triangle. Gomi throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Calzaghe's body to avoid the submission. Calzaghe has instead reached around Gomi's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Calzaghe arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Joe Calzaghe!
Joe Calzaghe is the new lightweight champion!
Joe Calzaghe decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
