PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between James Jaffer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Jerks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jaffer comes into the arena with DubRaider- Starry Eyes blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Robert Douchet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jerks gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Jaffer counters with a three punch combo that has Jerks backing up. Jerks nods at Jaffer to acknowledge the strikes.

and Jaffer counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Jaffer.
James Jaffer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Jerks.
Jaffer is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Jaffer tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Jaffer gets through Jerks's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Jerks tries to circle away but Jaffer has him pinned against the cage.

Jaffer gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Jaffer is pushing down on Jerks's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jerks is fighting to maintain full guard but Jaffer has managed to sneak the leg through.

Jerks pushes Jaffer off looking to stand but Jaffer dives back in and keeps control.

Jaffer throwing shots but Jerks is blocking nicely.

Jaffer seems to be working for a kimura but Jerks defends the submission attempt.
Jaffer not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Jaffer content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Jerks has hold of Jaffer's hands but Jaffer slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Jaffer prevents Jerks from improving his position.

Jerks is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jaffer pulls his head out easily.
Jerks wants to control but Jaffer is keeping busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jerks wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jaffer working over Jerks with some ground and pound. Jerks looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Jaffer is working for a submission of some sort.
Jaffer throwing shots but Jerks is blocking nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jaffer stands up out of the half guard.
Jerks shoots in looking for a takedown but Jaffer manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jerks's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Jaffer darts in and clinches Jerks up against the cage.
Jerks is trying to pull guard but Jaffer turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Jaffer creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Jaffer stops a takedown attempt from Jerks.

Jaffer wants the takedown. Jerks is fighting it off but Jaffer persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Jerks's guard against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jaffer throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Jaffer dominated that round.

Jaffer lands with an uppercut that bounces Jerks off the cage and back into range.
Jerks misses with a takedown attempt
and Jaffer counters with a straight right hand.
Jaffer scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Jerks doesn't seem bothered though.
Jerks shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jaffer defends it nicely.

Jaffer moves into the clinch successfully.
Jaffer lands with a left to the head.
Jaffer lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Jerks backwards.
Jaffer lands with a right to the head.

Jaffer gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Jaffer works his way into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jerks being controlled for a moment.

Jaffer is working to tighten his grip on Jerks's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Jerks has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Jaffer is really squeezing tight and eventually Jerks passes out! Jaffer breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

In his post fight interview, James Jaffer started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
