PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carl Draiman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juha Kuivanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Carl Draiman has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Carl Draiman seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carl Draiman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Juha Kuivanen!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Draiman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Draiman tries to move to mount but Kuivanen blocks the move with his legs.
Kuivanen is trying to get back to his feet.

Kuivanen throws Draiman to one side and escapes!
Kuivanen tries to work over Draiman's front leg with a kick but Draiman checks it.

Draiman feints and as Kuivanen raises his hands in defense, Draiman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Draiman prevents Kuivanen from getting back to his feet.
Draiman forces his way into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Draiman is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kuivanen has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kuivanen is not content to let Draiman control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Draiman is just content to waste time from the top position. Kuivanen takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Draiman trying to control the position from guard on top but Kuivanen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Draiman stops Kuivanen from standing up.
Draiman looking to pass the guard.
Draiman stops Kuivanen from standing up.
Kuivanen is looking to stand back up but Draiman counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Kuivanen.
Draiman seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Kuivanen tries to kick Draiman off but Draiman keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Draiman wants to control but Kuivanen is keeping him busy.
Draiman looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Carl Draiman has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Kuivanen throws a right and a left that Draiman avoids nicely.
Kuivanen pivots, looking for a leg kick but Draiman is out of range and Kuivanen settles back down.
Kuivanen pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Draiman shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kuivanen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Draiman wants to control from the top but Kuivanen keeps moving.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kuivanen wants to stand but Draiman is controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kuivanen looks winded!
Draiman wants to stand but Kuivanen has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Draiman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kuivanen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kuivanen is wriggling around but Draiman manages to pass to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Draiman wants to take a breather but Kuivanen is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Draiman is trying for a kimura here. Kuivanen looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Draiman wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Carl Draiman!
After winning the bout, Carl Draiman thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
