PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peter Crouch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wolfgang Steuermann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steuermann has chosen Ein Prosit as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The key to victory for Peter Crouch has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Crouch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Wolfgang Steuermann!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crouch goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Crouch digs a good body shot into Steuermann's ribs.
Sloppy strikes from Crouch. Those never looked like landing.
Steuermann on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Crouch misses with a double jab.
Crouch showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Steuermann.
Steuermann walks into a left hand.
We've been told by Crouch's head coaches at Personal Training that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Crouch connects with a right hand. Steuermann shakes it off.
Steuermann closes this distance looking for a takedown but Crouch circles away.

Steuermann gets a double leg takedown into Crouch's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Steuermann working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Steuermann throws an elbow that misses. Crouch uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Steuermann's guard. Nice move by Crouch!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Steuermann working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Crouch doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Crouch manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Crouch knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Steuermann on the ground.
Crouch won't allow Steuermann to sweep him here.
Steuermann thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Crouch stands up and waves to Steuermann to follow him.
Crouch misses with the combination.
Crouch is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Crouch misses with an uppercut.
Crouch misses the shot to the body.
Crouch throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Steuermann sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A cross from Crouch lands.

Steuermann shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Steuermann trying to control the position from guard on top but Crouch is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Steuermann accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Crouch working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Steuermann.
Crouch wants to get back to his feet but Steuermann is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Steuermann tries to free his leg and advance position but Crouch is retaining full guard.
Steuermann content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Crouch controlling Steuermann's posture.
Steuermann stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Crouch swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Steuermann trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Steuermann postures up in Crouch's guard and throws a big left but Crouch blocks it.
Steuermann throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Crouch works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Steuermann passes Crouch's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Steuermann seems to be working for a kimura but Crouch defends the submission attempt.
Steuermann throwing shots but Crouch is blocking nicely.
Steuermann not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Crouch is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Steuermann scores with a couple of nice shots.
Steuermann scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Steuermann not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Steuermann is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Crouch is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Wolfgang Steuermann!
A less than humble Wolfgang Steuermann misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
