PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lloyd Barr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams has chosen Holy Grail as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Williams!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Williams gets a double leg takedown into Barr's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Williams trying to control the position from guard on top but Barr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Williams's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Barr is looking to stand up but Williams isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Joe Williams wasn't active enough on the ground.
Williams throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Lloyd Barr has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Barr shoots in for a takedown but Williams shows good takedown defense.
A head kick misses from Williams.
Barr moves away from the strike by Williams.

Williams dives in and scores a takedown into Barr's guard.

Williams avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Williams must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Williams manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Barr on his heels. He'll look to pass Barr's guard now, I'm sure.

Williams fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Barr to the ground. Williams is now in Barr's guard.

Williams stands and steps away. Barr gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Williams scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Barr is not content to let Williams control the position.
Williams is pressing down on Barr's thigh, looking to free his foot. Barr is holding on for now.

Williams wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barr keeps working.

Williams shoots in and gets a takedown into Barr's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Barr has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Williams can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Williams can do anything to dispel that myth.

Williams tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Barr has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Barr can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Williams is looking to escape.

Barr is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Williams has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Williams!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Williams fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Barr avoids it really well and circles away.

Williams tries to clinch but Barr is having none of it.

Williams drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Barr tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Williams comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Williams has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
