PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Barry Barrow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Barbaro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barrow has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Barry Barrow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Barbaro!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Steve Montenegro and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barbaro shoots in for a double leg but Barrow sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Barbaro scores with a leg kick.
Barrow throws a lazy head kick
and Barbaro counters with an outside leg kick.
Barrow is breathing heavily.
Barbaro closes the distance and clinches up with Barrow, looking for a takedown. Barbaro pushes Barrow against the cage but Barrow circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Barrow takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Barbaro has managed to clinch.

Barbaro pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Barbaro fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Barrow, pushing him back against the cage.
Barbaro works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Barbaro is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Barbaro escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barrow walks forward, straight into a front kick from Barbaro.

Barbaro clinches with his opponent.
Barbaro lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Barbaro successfully pulls guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Barbaro wants to sweep here but Barrow controlling him for the moment.
Barbaro throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Barbaro has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Barrow off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Barbaro clinches up with Barrow and pushes him back against the cage.

Barbaro drags the fight down to the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Barbaro working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Barrow doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Barrow manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barbaro looking to hit a scissor sweep but Barrow is one step ahead there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barbaro pulls Barrow in close to prevent any damage.

Barrow got a little sloppy there for a moment and Barbaro has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Barrow has managed to get both his arms back between Barbaro's legs - danger averted.
Barrow is fighting to break Barbaro's control of his arms but Barbaro is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Barbaro will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Barbaro has control of Barrow's left arm, preventing Barrow from doing any damage.

Barbaro pushes Barrow off and gets back to his feet.

Barbaro has Barrow up against the cage in a clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Barbaro changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Barrow fights it off and pushes away nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Barbaro dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Barry Barrow's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Barbaro dives in and grabs Barrow's left leg, looking for a takedown. Barrow pushes down on Barbaro's head and hops out.
Barbaro fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Barrow has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Barbaro tries to score a power double leg takedown but Barrow sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Barbaro somewhat.

Barbaro closes the distance and clinches.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Barrow is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Barry Barrow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Barbaro.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Barbaro turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Barbaro manages to end up in side control.
Barbaro tries to advance to mount but Barrow denies him.
Barrow is letting Barbaro control him for a moment.
Barrow pushes Barbaro away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Barbaro gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Barbaro lands a few punches from side control.
Barbaro moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Barrow prevents Barbaro from improving position.
Barbaro controls the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Barbaro advances to full mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barbaro takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Barrow is trying to stand.
Barbaro controlling his opponent.
Barbaro lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barrow in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Barrow really wants to buck Barbaro off and get back to his feet.
Barbaro lands a big elbow.
Barbaro controlling from the full mount.
Barbaro landing strikes from the mount.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Barrow is rocked!
Barbaro looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Barrow covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joe Barbaro!
Joe Barbaro very nearly forgot to thank Nutrition Company amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
