Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Herman Pacquiao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pedro Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 44 - 19 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Herman Pacquiao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pedro Rua!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pacquiao connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Pacquiao throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Rua stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Pacquiao digs a good hook to Rua's body.
Rua takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
A big left from Pacquiao misses.
Pacquiao tried to score with a low kick but Rua checks it.
Pacquiao loads up on a big right hand but Rua slips the punch.
Pacquiao jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Rua moves out of range as Pacquiao strikes.
Rua keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Pacquiao.

and Rua counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pacquiao's guard now.

Pacquiao seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Pacquiao not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Herman Pacquiao has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Rua avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pacquiao fails in his attempt to clinch.
Pacquiao throws a hook to the side of Rua's head but Rua sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Rua counters with a single leg into guard. Pacquiao didn't expect that.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Rua counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Pacquiao is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Rua wanted to stand there but Pacquiao had control of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Herman Pacquiao just wasn't active enough.

That was a close second round but I would say that Herman Pacquiao will probably get the nod.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Rua crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Pacquiao - the referee stops the clock and Rua gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Pacquiao. Rua manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Rua seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
The fighters are battling for position here. Pacquiao manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Pacquiao is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rua is fighting to break Pacquiao's control of his arms but Pacquiao is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Pacquiao lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Pacquiao lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Pacquiao throws a shot from downtown. Rua moves away and avoids it.
Rua takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Pacquiao misses with a low kick.
Pacquiao tries to clinch there but Rua circles away.
Pacquiao jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Pacquiao connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Pacquiao moves in looking to clinch but Rua pushes him off.
Rua keeps the fight on the outside.
Pacquiao cracks a nice hook into Rua's ribs.

and Rua counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rua.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rua decides to stand back up. Rua steps back and let's Pacquiao get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Herman Pacquiao showed his dominance in that final round.

Herman Pacquiao spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
