PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Young Frazier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergey Vermenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Young Frazier has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Young Frazier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sergey Vermenko!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vermenko moves to clinch but Frazier breaks away

and Frazier counters with a nice double leg into side control. Vermenko won't be happy with that.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Frazier is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Vermenko knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Vermenko wants to get back to his feet but Frazier drags him back down.
Frazier could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Frazier misses with the ground and pound.
Vermenko is pushing Frazier's head away, looking to escape. Frazier manages to hold on to the position though.

Frazier thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Vermenko is trying to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Frazier working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Frazier remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vermenko wants to control but Frazier postures up.
Vermenko is looking for a sweep.
Frazier advances nicely into full mount.
Frazier throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Frazier has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Frazier sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Frazier is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Frazier changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Vermenko tries to avoid it but Frazier manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Vermenko to the ground. Vermenko escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Vermenko looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Vermenko fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Frazier on the side of the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Frazier looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vermenko is fending him off so far but Frazier persists. Nope, Vermenko circles away and we're back to standing.
Vermenko tries to clinch up but Frazier circles away and keeps his distance.
Sergey Vermenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vermenko closes the distance but Frazier moves to the side
and Frazier makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Vermenko really felt that one!

Frazier clinches with his opponent.
Frazier tries to pull guard but Vermenko won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Young Frazier. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Frazier has Vermenko pressed against the cage, preventing Vermenko from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Frazier jumps guard but Vermenko turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Vermenko wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Frazier can't get the takedown.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Frazier breaks the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Young Frazier dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Frazier drives through and clinches with Vermenko against the cage.

Frazier pulls guard.
Vermenko would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Vermenko is fighting to break Frazier's control of his arms but Frazier is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Young Frazier overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Vermenko trying to stand up but can't free himself from Frazier's guard.
Vermenko wants to stand and escape but instead Frazier has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Frazier decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A right-left combo lands from Vermenko.


It looks like Young Frazier has been cut.

Frazier clinches up against the cage.

Frazier escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Vermenko! Frazier is out on his feet! Vermenko rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Frazier is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Frazier is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sergey Vermenko!
