PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marco Polo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivo Lascasas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marco Polo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ivo Lascasas!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lascasas wants to clinch.
Lascasas tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The fight stays on the outside here - Lascasas looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Polo takes the fight into the clinch.
Lascasas tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Lascasas throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Lascasas turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Polo is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Polo looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Lascasas tries to stand but can't do so whilst Polo controls his leg.
Polo moves into full guard.
Lascasas trying to control but Polo is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Polo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Lascasas manages to get himself to full guard.

Lascasas is working an open guard so Polo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Lascasas throws a head kick but Polo moves out of range.
Lascasas tries to close the distance and clinch but Polo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Polo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lascasas swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lascasas tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Polo counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Lascasas!
Polo manages to capitalize on a mistake by Lascasas to take his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lascasas is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Polo is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Lascasas is defending well though. Polo let's go of the attempt for now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Polo is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Lascasas is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Polo has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Lascasas has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Polo is breathing heavily.

Polo looking to break Lascasas's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Lascasas remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Polo will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Polo doesn't have the hooks in and Lascasas manages to turn into his guard.
Lascasas tries to free his leg and advance position but Polo is retaining full guard.
Lascasasis looking to pass into half guard but Polo pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Polo is in guard.

Lascasas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Polo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Lascasas working for a triangle but Polo defends it easily.
Polo passes Lascasas's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lascasas looks like he's trying to stand up.

Polo is working for a submission of some sort.

Lascasas kicks off Polo and gets to his feet.
Polo moves out of range of the body kick from Lascasas.
Lascasas tries for a takedown but Polo circles away easily

and Polo counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Polo.

Polo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Polo could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lascasas trying to keep a closed guard but Polo is proving a slippery customer.

Lascasas throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Polo escapes and throws Lascasas's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Polo advances to full mount.
Lascasas regains half guard.

Lascasas is defending against the submission attempts here by Polo.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lascasas is trying to stand back up but Polo is controlling him
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marco Polo dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Polo moves out of range of the leg kick from Lascasas.

Polo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lascasas, pushing him back against the cage.
Lascasas is pressed up against the cage. Polo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Lascasas down to the mat. Lascasas avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Lascasas swings for the body but Polo moves out of range.

Polo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Polo prevents Lascasas from getting the reversal.
Lascasas is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Lascasas is trying desperately to improve position.
Polo fails to take his opponent's back.
Lascasas wants to control but Polo is having none of it.
Lascasas wants to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Polo has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Lascasas is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Marco Polo!
