Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Pontes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Rua might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to New Born. This should be a great matchup!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Rua or perhaps it was just good defense by Pontes which made him look bad.
Rua tries for a takedown but Pontes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Pontes gets caught flat footed, as Rua shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Rua knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pontes on the ground.

Pontes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pontes is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pontes wants to free his trapped foot but Rua is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Pontes is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rua doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Pontes.
Rua on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rua tries to get out of the position.
Rua wants to improve his position but Pontes is controlling well.
