PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sir Phinnius Bacon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Castillo has chosen Beautiful as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sir Phinnius Bacon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Randy Castillo!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bacon fails in his attempt to clinch.
Castillo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bacon is fending him off so far but Castillo persists. Nope, Bacon circles away and we're back to standing.

Castillo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Castillo showed some decent athleticism there.

Bacon makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Castillo tries for a takedown but Bacon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Bacon feints and as Castillo raises his hands in defense, Bacon changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Castillo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bacon's guard.

Bacon manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Castillo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Bacon has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Castillo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

and Bacon counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Bacon.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Bacon for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

Bacon is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Castillo pulls him back up using the underhooks.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Bacon gets to his feet - Castillo follows without any prompting.

and Castillo counters with a shoot takedown. Bacon fights it but they end up in guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bacon wants to stand up but Castillo is controlling him.
Bacon is pulling down on Castillo's head. It's preventing any offense from Castillo, at least for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Randy Castillo will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Castillo is working for a submission of some sort.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Castillo counters with a takedown into side control.
Bacon can't do much from the bottom here.

Castillo swings around for an armbar but Bacon sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Castillo's guard.

Castillo looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Bacon has picked Castillo up and slammed him! Castillo can't keep hold of the triangle and Bacon manages to pass to side control!

and Castillo counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Castillo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Castillo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

Bacon misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Bacon lands a damaging elbow.
Bacon digs a right hand into Castillo's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Castillo's gas tank.

Castillo jumps guard but Bacon stands there with Castillo around his waist. Castillo gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Bacon turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Bacon manages to end up in side control.

and Bacon counters by moving into the clinch.
Bacon has Castillo pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Castillo manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
The is referee keeping an eye on Bacon - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Come on Bacon - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bacon unloads a knee to the mid-section. Castillo lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Castillo tries to pull guard but Bacon holds him up against the cage and eventually Castillo drops back down to his feet.

Bacon using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Castillo has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Bacon gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Castillo is fighting off a takedown attempt but Bacon is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Castillo to the mat. Castillo regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Castillo had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Bacon is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Castillo Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Bacon's back instead.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Castillo is trying to stick to Bacon's back but Bacon is turning into Castillo. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Castillo's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Bacon.
Sir Phinnius Bacon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Castillo is looking for a triangle but Bacon pushes his legs off easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sir Phinnius Bacon showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Castillo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
