The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gai throws a leg kick but Sheppard sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Sheppard shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gai is trying to defend but Sheppard finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Sheppard is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Gai as he works his way to full guard.
Sheppard trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sheppard postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Gai looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sheppard is one step ahead there.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sum Gai wasn't active enough on the ground.
Sheppard takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Gai tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Sheppard tries to work over Gai's front leg with a kick but Gai checks it.
Gai tries to close the distance and clinch but Sheppard swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gai scores with a nice strike.
Sum Gai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sheppard falls off balance throwing a combination
and Gai counters with a nice kick to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gai looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Sheppard takes a kick to the side of the head.

It looks like Myles Sheppard has been cut.

Gai finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Gai lands a nice hook to Sheppard's body. Sheppard takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Gai wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Gai throws out a leg kick but Sheppard moves out of range and Gai only half commits.

Nice takedown defense from Gai. No joy for Sheppard on that attempt.
Sheppard is breathing heavily.

Gai has closed the distance and engaged Sheppard in a clinch.
Gai crunches a lovely knee into Sheppard's ribcage.
Gai fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Gai breaks from the clinch.
Sheppard darts in looking for a takedown but Gai gets double underhooks and turns Sheppard into the cage.
Sheppard jumps guard but Gai turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Gai connects with a nasty looking knee right to Sheppard's face.

Gai pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sheppard dodges the punch combination from Gai.
Sheppard takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Gai tests Sheppard's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Gai lands a head kick. Sheppard smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Crunch! Gai slams his shin into Sheppard's torso.

Gai closes the distance and clinches.
Gai connects with a knee to the head.

Gai pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gai connects with a solid leg kick.
Gai fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Gai looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Gai tries to close the distance and clinch but Sheppard swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Gai. Sheppard shrugs it off though.

Gai lands a head kick!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gai lands a jab to the nose.
Gai thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Sheppard if he has to take too many more of those.
Sheppard fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gai avoids it really well and circles away.
Gai lands with a right hand.

Sheppard is rocked!
Sum Gai seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gai lands with a massive overhand right! Stick a fork in Sheppard - he's out cold! Ermm... I think I just mixed my metaphors but yeah... That was a nice KO! Big win for Gai!
